Ibiza Buses

Not anymore. Some tourists were going straight from the airport to the Consell Insular with their suitcases (!) asking for it so they had to stop it. Now you need to show the residencia or work contract to get it for the first time or to renew it. They also started charging for it as some people were losing it over and over again, giving them too much work. They give stuff for free and still people take the piss...
That's what happens when things get posted on public forums!

Seriously though, that's not good news. I've just got back home a few days ago from a 17 night stay. I did notice a lot more people using the cards, and most of them looked brand shiny new.

I've had mine since they were first introduced (and the previous non photo card version for many years before). I would have no qualms paying for a card, even if the travel was only discounted as before - its always been good value. But if they are going to strictly enforce the residency part then that would be of concern to me. I make 2 visits a year, usually for a total between 6-7 weeks and I use the bus every day. My card is getting so worn now that I was thinking of getting a new replacement this year but now I'm thinking I'll just hold on to it until it completely dies.

Does anyone know if the 09 bus service from the airport to San an, will still be running in mid October?

Thanks 👍
I just received an email from the hotel a couple of days ago, saying that the bus will run from the airport until the end of September. From 7.00 A.M. to 1.30 A.M. every 30 minutes.

Have to say, the buses saved our arses a few times last week. Was very impressed overall with pricing and punctuality. The woman in the booth in SE looked a bit stressed out on Saturday because there were delays due to the triathlon but we had no real issues. I feared the bus to SA would go all round the houses but was very fast. The driver certainly liked his hard rock!

The current timetable (bus 09 every 30 minutes) will not change until October 14th. From October 14th to October 31st Bus 09 from the airport to San An will run from 7.00 A.M. to 11.00 P.M. every 60 minutes.

Just came here to post this info - I see I’m a bit late! I’ll be catching the 4pm bus to the airport tomorrow if anyone wishes to wave me off 😅
Noticed a couple of other discrepancies to the timetables also - the No. 34 from San An to Cala Salada is still running every 30 mins - even though the service was supposed to stop at the end of Sept.
Also the No. 4 to Cala Conta is still running an additional 2pm bus which should have stopped mid Sept.
Maybe all timetables will go back to normal ‘off peak’ service tomorrow (the 14th).

Although the rumour was that December would be the last one, we'll get 6 extra months of free buses...

Well done to the Balearic authorities - milking Spanish taxpayers for €43 million so that island residents can enjoy free buses is a stroke of genius :D

You do realise that longer distance bus journeys on the mainland and for more rural places are also free? It's a countrywide government initiative.

It's not like when I lived in Brighton (or Glasgow, or Edinburgh) when it's a lot easier to walk between places. Places in Spain are often a lot less connected and unless you have a car or want to drive, there is usually no other way of getting around.

Every post you make, you really do show your ignorance of Ibiza life.

I understood that's about to end. Am I wrong? And the article @McRackin posted seemed to indicate the free bus service is specifically for the Balearics, that's why the local government is scratching its head on how to cover the funding shortfall.

I am just trying to imagine a region in Germany giving all its residents free bus travel using federal tax money, while non-resident Germans (who pay those taxes) would still have to buy tickets. That would be an outrage! A few cities in Germany do offer free bus travel, that's of course available to everyone and not just registered residents.

I am of course ignorant of Ibiza life - I am just a tourist, not a resident. I don't expect tourists here in Frankfurt to know about our garbage regulations either, so it should be a fair game.

Luxembourg - the whole country not just the city - has free public transport (buses, trams, trains) for everyone? Is that still a thing in 2025?
