i-pod question

Well, you don't have to share all your folders. In fact, you don't have to share any, really... you could just point the program to your "house" folder and then no one will see what's in the "cheesepop" folder

As long as you make sure you're downloading only mp3 files (and using an up-to-date media player program), you should be ok against viruses.

Limewire is just a different p2p program. The main difference is that Soulseek seems to be very much music oriented and very good for dance tunes.

right so bittorrent for albums, soulseek for dance tracks/mixes and we'll leave peter andre in the cabinet.;)

what about dance albums........cos that'll be in between both, no??

whats the advantage of bittorrent?

how do you mean??
Your IT people can see how much traffic is going through the system... when things get a bit slow, they might check it out and figure out that Grego's downloading 140 mB an hour. Queue 'letter of warning'

Right... Bit Torrent is a different animal altogether.

First, you download and install a Bit Torrent "client". This is basically a program that moves data around.

Then you go to any of various websites that catalogue "torrents" that are out there in the wild. When you find something you want, you usually click on a link and download a very small torrent file and open it in your Bit Torrent client.

Now comes the fun part. Using the instructions found in this torrent file, your torrent client will connect to other people downloading and uploading this same file. So, you'll start downloading and simultaneously uploading the file you want. No need to share a folder on your computer... you're already doing your part by passing bits of the file along as you download it yourself.

When it's done, the program will show you that it's finished.

UTorrent is the best Bit Torrent client program out there. Demonoid and Btjunkie are the best websites.

It's better for albums and large files because you're downloading from multiple sources, as opposed to Soulseek where you're downloading from just one other person (whose Internet connection might be slow). You usually won't find single songs through Bit Torrent, but you'll find a whole album packed together.
