Guys: what kind of shoe person are you?

Continuing the shoe theme from yesterday, what kind of shoe person are you? Most guys I know seem to be one of two types: they either a) where a couple of pairs of shoes until they die and then replace them, or b) they collect shoes, rotate them, and wear them for years.

I'm the first type and seem to cycle through shoes at a pretty fast pace (3-5 months on average). I'm beginning to wonder that if I begin to hoard shoes if I'll create some kinds of economies of scale... perhaps it's better to hoard?

I'm talking about suit-accompanying work shoes, of course... weekend/casual shoes are a different matter.

I very very rarely wear shoes.

I'm definately a trainers guy. I would say a hoarder and rotator.

I've probably got a good 40 pairs. A few which i wear all the time, several pairs of limited editions which are too good to wear  and some i've never even had on once.

I tend to buy trainers then go looking for jeans to go with them. Jeans are easy to find, but good shoes/trainers take some hunting down.

Hmm... that's interesting. I almost never wear trainers. Only for sports, really. One pair of cross-trainers and some football boots.

You can't get into a decent nightclub in Moscow in trainers half the time, so that rules them out for weekend wear. Plus they just don't go well with suits

40 pairs... that's well on your way to Imelda Marcos land

I guess I've got about 20 pairs of shoes, some of which definitely need throwing out.

Most of them only go with one pair of jeans though, so I guess I'm a bit like drew!

I have a pair of working shoes for winter, two working pairs for summer, three pair of boots and about 10 pair of trainners and a couple of non-working sandals and few flip-flops

Before Christmas I boxed up about 15 pairs of shoes deemed no longer fit for public viewing  Most of them I hadn't warn in months or years anyway.

Perhaps it's a sign of getting older but I can't bring myself to wear shoes when they're all scratched up or faded (except trainers which, as mentioned earlier, are only for sports). Unfortunately, I tend to scratch up shoes in remarkably quick fashion.:spank:

Wow, Silvia... that sounds like a guy's shoe wardrobe not a gal's

Subtract 2 pairs of boots and change most of the trainers to leather casuals and that's about what I've got.

I hate shoes on boys, give me trainers/Rifts anyday of the week, boys wearing shoes remind me of the types of blokes who go to Ritzy type places on the pull in trousers, shirts tucked in and shoes

I tend to wear a pair of flat thin soled 'going out' type trainers (as opposed to proper trainers) when I'm DJing 'cos they're almost like slippers. During the week I tend to wear casual shoes and then I wear 'proper' trainers for running every day and that's about it.

I do have loads of others that are only worn occasionally like scruffy worn trainers for going 'off road' and fell shoes as well as cross country spikes. I'm lucky 'cos I'm quite light on my feet and a pair of shoes/trainers usually last me for a couple of years. 8O

I don't know what is your idea of gal's wardrobe, but most of my girl friends have more trainers than shoes. 8O

Im deffo a shoe person, i have more shoes to go out in than anything, about 20. 1 Pair of rifts and about 4 pairs for work. I threw all my flip flops away at the end of this summer so that i can buy some new ones for this summer :)

I don't like shoes really, I have my work shoes and a pair of boots for work, a pair of gucci loafers for occasions where they are necessary and the rest is all trainers. I don't like throwing trainers away tho for some reason so of them all i only have 4 pairs that i still wear.

 and all the better if the shirt is check and made by ben sherman or similar. reminds me of buckley's footy team night out, i think, when he was told to bring a shirt and shoes:lol: .

for the record, I only have one pair of work shoes that just get battered quickly and another smarter pair that i polish up if i've got a conference, important meeting, conducting interviews, etc.:p

casually, i hoard a bit more and rarely wear some of them. (not quite 40 pair like drew though, more like 10 pair). in an ideal world, i'd just like it to be hot enough so that i could wear jesus sandals all the time8)

Grego - my type of guy

Sil - I guess maybe it's a matter of where I've been living for nearly a decade, but girls out in this region always wear shoes. Heels, boots (with heel ), flats, pumps... you'll rarely find a girl in trainers going out, unless they're something super stylish.

One of the funniest things around here is that when you meet someone, they'll often check out and judge you on your shoes  There was even one nightclub where the doorman was a former shoe salesman and if yours weren't in good shape there was no way you were getting in to that club (and definitely not in trainers!)

I guess I've forgotten that women back home in the States wear trainers quite a bit.

So, what is a guy supposed to wear to work? :?:

I was talking about outside work. But with regards to work it depends what industry you work in, I know stuff like Marketing, Advertising, Design, PR etc you'd get laughed out the offices for wearing suit and shoes, however there are still some fields where suit and shoes is expected for boys - in the city, lawyers etc.

Out of work for clubbing/meals/drinks etc nobody I know would wear shoes out, as I said they're synonamous (sp??) with blokes on the pull in their Ben Sherman shirts tucked into their chinos  , no decent club in England would even think about stipulating a no trainers dress code, the only clubs that do say that are your Ritzy type places where shoes/chinos/Ben Sherman is considered the height of good taste

I like my work shoes, nice and pointy

all my other shoes are trainers (mostly converse - I've gone through about 15 pairs in the last 4 years!) plus a couple of pairs of beautiful swear leather weird shoe things which i love and then random other shoes, mostly retro type things that look like converse...

There's lots of girls here who go out in heels, boots or shoes, but there's also lots wearing trainers to go out, nowadays the line between proper shoes and trainers is quite difficult to draw, actually today I'm wearing a pair of trainers that more or less look like sport shoes and are more or less right to wear at work.

BTW, I was very disappointed in NY re trainers. I wanted to buy a pair very sitlish and cool but except few retro ones and some rifts that few months later were in the nike store here, all trainers were very ugly, the type you only wear to go to the gym

:D
