Grown Up Careers Advice Needed

I think you should go for the better career option Sar. It is a very reputable company and like we've talked about before, I know someone who works there(ish) and she absolutely loves it.
It will look great on your CV, and plus even if you don't like it, stick it out for 6 months/a year and then at least it will give you some more experience.

Like you said, smaller agencies are probably more fun/chilled out work-wise, but you wont have the security that you will with a bigger agency.

Come on Babs you have to grow up sometime!

But I'm scared they're going to be really poncey and I won't fit in and I'll come home from work every night crying cos they all laugh at the pink northern bird and no-one talks to me or will have lunch with me or help me with what I'm doing :?

I seriously doubt it will be like that :) You might get some poncey types who you just know you wont get along with, but then again you might get some crazy, ditzy types like yourself who could end up being your best friend. To be honest, in these type of agencies it goes without saying that the people that work there love going out, drinking wine and partying hard so I'm sure you'll fit in ;)

But having said that it's obviously your decision, whatever you think you will be happiest in :D

Babs, honestly, it really wont be like that. You will find (unts in any office, but (without polishing your halo too much!) you have a personality which people obviously warm to.

You'll be just fine! Office women will want to be you (yet you're sincere enough not to encourage jelousy from them) (and nice enough for all the fellas to dream they might just have a chance! haha).

I reckon by Christmas you'll be running the place, imposing a dress code of strictly pink, and officially turn the working week into a permanent 4 dayer (Mondays off, natch), And Tuesday mornings people will be swarmed round your desk "So what did you ge up to this weekend Sa.., sorry Babs? Oooooh tat's a nice skirt, where d'ya get that from..." etc

You go girl!

Another sensible verdict here......as was said you should give it a go and see if its for you. If not, you can always go back to freelancing.
You will always regret it if you dont take the chance when there. Freelancing you can always come back to.
One bit of advice though, if you are going to give it a go, you have to give a proper go and dont go into it half heartedly......because if you do, you will end up back in freelancing sooner than you think. ;)

Take it
Take it
Take it
Take it
Take it

If you turn it down you'll kick yourself a few days later and wished you hadn't. ;)

if you take the new job, will you still be able to do Ibiza openings? :)

Now seriously what do you think ;)

I told them at second interview I had holiday booked and then when recruitment consultant rang me last night I asked her to check the holiday situation, I spose deep down I'm hoping that they say it won't be possible and then I can go 'see ya then' ;)

I was freelancing for 4 years and enjoyed a fantastic life, going on holiday whenever i wanted, earning loads of money.

Then, like you, I was offered a permanent job in a poncey firm. Deciding it was time to grow up I took the offer.

Suddenly I found life very different and it took a long time to get used to it. I was working late, turning up really early to the office and found myself getting sucked into office politics.

I missed out on loads of holidays with my mates as I couldn't get the time-off. My new work colleagues were not interested in the same things as me, it was a nightmare.

After five years I quit and tried to get back into freelancing. I was not able to as the five years I had been out working for this firm meant my skills were only good with that firms propriety systems and nobody else used them. Plus all the freelance recruiters now saw me as some sort of arrogant #%*er because i had come from this poncey firm.

I've been out of work now for over 2 years!!!!

I missed out last summer on a weekend to Ibiza with my friends because I couldn't afford it, and am deeply unhappy. I wish I had not taken that job.

My advice to you is to go with your gut feeling. Don't listen to other people. You know yourself deep down whether this is the right time to go permanent or not.

If you are unsure ask the recruitment consultant if you can visit the company one more time and speak to some of the people you would be working with. Most companies will allow this and it will give you a better understanding of whether you'd be happy there.

Babs - you are free spirit, keep freelancing... 8)

When you are ready for a permanent job you won't come onto the board asking us to talk you out of it...

Thankyouuuu Venom, well thankyouuuu everyone. I am such a confused little missy at the moment, Tom got home last night and I was sat in the middle of the floor in my pants with my head in my hands necking wine 8O

My gut feeling is freelancing, I just feel like it suits me at the moment, I went to see the freelancing company where I'm starting on Tuesday and I just immediately felt at home. Whereas from my initial interview with permanent job I've had my doubts (one is the poncey-ness of it all, it is typical Knightsbridge type agency - I mean Scunny bird working in Knigthsbridge 8O  ) and as well I'm not 100% sure about the role (about 75% of it will be advertising but the other 25% will be direct marketing (boring imo) and online stuff (never done before :? ) whereas I know I could go freelancing on Tuesday and know what I'm doing in no time.

But then even Babs has to grow up and do sensible at some point I spose :? :? :?

Btw hope you find new job soon ;)

My gut reaction was, 'Why the hell is she procrastinating about it? Silly woman!' Surely you can't lose because free lancing is always going to be a fallback option.

...but having thought about it (& given the comments above), freelancing may be the one to go for.
I'm of the belief that there's no such thing as 'that dream job' when you're working under someone. Our heads are constantly filled with cr*p about 'opportunities' and career options based purely around money.
It's a corporate ad agency in knightsbridge - hardly something that's going to fulfill every dream you ever had.

But...it could propel you towards an amazing future & posh flat full of wall to wall n____ c_____s!

Am I allowed to know which agency it is? I'm bound to know of them! Which discipline do they work under?

...

I can't believe you've dragged me out of the n____ c____ for a grown up moment on homelands eve! 8O 8O 8O

You owe me soooo many blasts of poppers in the sunshine tomorrow!

perhaps you should forget all about it for now, have a fab time @ H______  and the rest of the weekend and think about it all again on Tuesday!

It strikes me from what you've written here Babs that deep down you don't want to take this job, and that your concerns go beyond not wanting a permanant job. i'm sure that if you'd really taken to the place and job description then you wouldn't have any worries about taking permanant work.

You've been in a situation before where you weren't happy at work, and you know that Stephen went through the same thing. Its not worth it IMO.

Trust your judgement- the right job will come along ;)

That's so true Scoobie, a while back I went to see another agency about permanent job and everything about it I loved, it felt like my dream job, I even gave up a bloody night with Jon Carter to do a stupid presentation for the second interview for them   and then I got down to the final 2 and they gave it to the other person  But if I'd been offered that I would have taken it without a shadow of a doubt, I just feel that while I'm freelancing I can keep an eye out for this elusive 'dream' job but I don't have to commit myself to anything I'm not 100% sure about.
