Grown Up Careers Advice Needed

Babs in sensible post shocker 8O

A few months ago I went freelancing in what I do (Marketing). Have been loving it, great daily rate, getting lots of different Marketing Agency experience on my CV and it does suit me cos I'm a bit of a wayward free spirit  Am meant to be starting new freelancing job on Tuesday which I was really looking forward to.

The Recruitment Agencies I'm registered with still send me thru details on permanent positions but most of them I discount for various reasons but a couple of weeks ago went for interview for one. It's a really reputable big Marketing Agency, always in Top 10 agencies and it would be working on massive global account. First interview went well but wasn't totally sure if it was for me (they seem a bit poncey) but then got offered second interview and I felt more positive about job and company after that. Then I got asked back to meet the MD of the company today, went and met him and they've offered me the permanent job...........to start Tues 8O

I haven't got a clue what to do :? Do I stick with freelancing or do I take the permanent job which will be really good for my long term career and all that malarky :?

Help!! I'm a confused Babs :?

So far, my mum says stick with freelancing.
Jamie and Rachel say take the grown-up career option.
Tom says do whatever makes me happy long-term.

So I'm really none the wiser :?

Take the job....give it six months or so/a damn good go and if you don't like it after that then you can always go back to free lancing :D Well done :D

Yeah I spose it's not as if I'm signing the next 10 years of my life away :?

Ooh I hate being a grown-up

Exactly what i'd have said, you've nothing to lose and if it doesn't work out the experience can only be beneficial when making future decisions.

Good luck ;)

job advice

I'm a recruiter for the I.T. field. I got into it a few years ago, and now will make over $100,000 this year. So that's what, like 8,000 Euro? hahaha

Not sure how the field is in Europe, but it's easy and you can make a ton of money. Basically I look at resumes all day, make some calls, and e-mail my friends.

Easy as pie

Agree with those guys - and a top ten agency with global account management will really help your CV..

Thanks Nath, Drew and Mark, deep down I know you're right, it's just hard listening to the sensible part of me when I've got a devil sat on my shoulder telling me to do otherwise  ;)

Like what he said!!

Since when have you assumed the role of my sensible friend ;)

Am not thinking bout it anymore tonight, I've gone over it 100s in my head and it feels like it's going to explode, we're doing Homelands fashion shows now instead

Go on & Good luck!!! Stick it out for 6 months/ a year and then you'll have that glowing CV that'll mean you'll have the pick of future jobs. I say bite the bullet and go for it! :D

6 months, Sar, from here to Christmas to see if the grown up thing is for you or it's not ;) :D :D

Congrats Babs!

If you do take it say you are going away for the weekend and can't start till Wednesday. don't want to be 8O for your first day

Try it - you might like it :D If you dont - leave simple. If your freelancing, you dont need to put it on your CV so you wont loose out in future. Nothing to loose and everything to gain
