'Goths' the new Chavs?

i like the way Goths dress alternatively because they don't want to be fashion victims and all look the same...

The hippies did it in the 60's by all wearing blue denim to be alternative then all ended up looking the same anyway..

Cracks me up everytime

Good stuff in there.

Keeping with the topic, I think someone should do an 80s goth remix album. Throw a couple well-known Cure and Siouxsie & the Banshees remixes in with some Fields of the Nephilim, Lords of the New Church and Mission UK... you've got one dark party album!

And of course, a 20-minute remix of the Sisters of Mercy's "This Corrosion"

Ah but you have forgotten to add..... All about Eve, Dannielle Daxx, Violent Femmes, Jane's Addiction, Bahaus, The Bolshoi and last but not least........ Killing Joke, Magazine and The Cult....

I like Goths - they cause no trouble, they hang around in massive gangs in the summer in Newcastle all dressed in layers upon layers of black when its 70+ degrees - bless!!! They part like the Black Sea if you need to walk through them, they're quiet, they dont cause trouble like the Chav crowd and I would prefer to listen to their music blasting out than the crap "DJ Shouty B@stard" music that Chav's tend to play as they zoom past you in their chavved up Micra's.....

Marilyn Manson over DJ Sammy anyday!!!

'zackly. I have all the Lacuna Coil albums. Many of my friends are goths. I am a total metro though. I like goths; They are very quiet and don't start stuff.

Hmm.... good selections. Only Jane's Addiction and Violent Femmes don't fit... they're great bands but not gothic.

The Cult would have to be something early because they went through a hair-metal stage in the late 80s. Daxx's "Tomorrow Never Knows" is classic.

I forgot the Cranes... but I think they're best stuff was released in the 90s so that might disqualify them

i liked what kes said about goths being non-non-conformists :D makes me laugh too, all so different, yet, somehow, all so similar !

i also love laughin at the skaterboys in my town, i dont mind those that seem to know what they are doing, but they fannies who go around (about 95% of them) holding skateboards, or practising some crappy trick and not being ablet to pull it off makes me laugh. spotted some spotty 18 year olds (they looked about that anyway) skating through a bunch of oap's in city square the other week. theres a big church nearby they all hang around which is cool, but leave the old folks alone in town, they seemed to be trying to annoy them , cause they're like, cool skaters man....

and i'll walk through crowds of both goths and chavs, but you feel less intimidated with the goths for sure. mind you, just cause someones tipping their cap at 45 degrees and tucking their trackies into their socks, doesnt mean he's got more chance of beating shite out of me, that is until he pulls out his knuckle duster or cosh 8O

Yeah, i never did understand why people find chavs intimidating.

Most of them are built like stick insects under all that bagginess.

Hmm I'll give you that - Violent Femmes and Jane's Addiction - especially Porno for Pyro's were a big big influence oop north - but thinking about it it was more a cross over into the Grunge scene from a Goth scene

The Cult - if we go for Death Cult or Southern Death Cult then we can slot them into the Dark mixes........

We can do it in a cibernetic joint-venture Morbyd ;)

I saw Siouxsie 14 years ago, when I was a tender 17 yo! We arrived to the venue and saw that most guys were dresses ala Bela Lugossi, was quite funny, specially cos my friend had to wait for us for about one hour alone in the middle of the vamps

i've spent most me life on council estates and probably have been called a chav myself had the word been around...

point is chavs are intimidating. Don't let them see it... but don't be under any illusions either... there's a crew going round norwich at the mo and twats they are i know some pretty heavy geezers who won't even mess with them. Do one and you'll have thirty of them on your case all trying to make a name for themselves. Your car gets done, your house. Killed some poor dude last summer for being a hippy.

And they're all under 10 stone...

Sounds like a plan :) the Ibiza Goth brigade presents...

I saw Siouxsie in 1990 at Lolapalooza, a traveling festival (where, by the way, Jesus & Mary Chain rocked and Jane's Addiction simply ruled). She had already moved from Goth to almost Glam by that point, to be honest, but it was one of the highlights of the show.

Seems like I might have seen her earlier once, but I can't remember to be honest

Very brave of them. Don't forget to add how they'll only come out after dark to do this too

Intimidating? No way!

(poor hippy though)
