Ibiza Commerce
It probably won't come as any surprise to learn that in Ibiza tourism is the biggest sector of the economy with construction a close second. Figures just released for 2004 show that the gross income of the top 20 companies across all economic sectors on the island was a staggering €331 million. Of these the biggest grossing company was the Matutes Group which includes the Fiesta Hotels and Resorts which came in at number one because of its €48.7 million income.
With so much construction of new houses, offices and apartments it's also no surprise to learn that a building supplies company Suministros Ibiza turned over a massive €19.1 million making it the most successful in the construction sector. It's also no surprise to learn that this company is owned by the Matutes Group too.
Even though the results for 2006 are a long way off we predict that as Ibiza enjoyed its most prosperous year – more tourists visited than for many a year – and as the two enormous 'motorway' projects have massive supply logistics, that tourism and construction will be Top of the Pops again.

what you probably dont know is that the list of companies with the highest income includes pacha ibiza s.a. in the #12 (12.5 millions) and space beach club s.a. in the #45 (5.9 millions).....

 as you might remember, the attempts by space beach club s.a. to open a new club in ibiza town harbour in the late 90s failed. then they tried to open it in san antonio harbour, again with no success (they ended up renting the venue to the town hall to use as their offices). three years ago they tried it one more time in ibiza town but, once again, it failed so everybody thought that was it..... but today diario de ibiza reports that yesterday space beach club s.a. applied again to get the license to open a club in av. santa eulalia 15 (next to the burger king) :!:

on a curious note, three years ago the tentative name was noche viva.....
