Goal of the decade

Guys, I'm posting this again to remember you that this thread is meant to be a tribute to la Pulga and his performance last wednesday  http://www.d1g.com/video/show/899336

Thank you Sil!!! Not sure where we got from Messi to Trevor Sinclair

IMO Goals which are strikes from outside the area aren't as great as those made through dribbling. At the end of the day one strike lasts 0.01 seconds, while Messi's, Maradonna or George Weahs goals need the player to be consistently brilliant for 10-15 seconds. Technically its much harder to score Messi's goal than Zidanes :p
In Messi's case you need speed, agility, great touch, good close control, quick thinking etc etc.. When Zidane shot all you need is a decent left foot ;)

THAT is some good stuff. Love that tackle-dodging spin he did as he crossed midfield. A thing of beauty 8)

Just a shame he never really did anything like that when he was a Chelsea player, but a great player nonetheless...

(as for that joke about him and David Beckham. Classic)...

The 2 goals are technically not comparable as you can't compare Messi and zidane.
Scoring with the left foot when the ball is coming from the left side needs more than a decent foot. Give it a try:)

I havent got a left foot, if its on my right on the other hand... ;)

I see what you mean but all im saying is that you see more goals like that one of Zidane in top flight football, than you do of Messi. Also the ball for Zidane's goal was dropping from a high position, (Roberto Carlos' cross was awful  ) so effectively it was simply a volley.

in general i agree with you ferd that team goals or dribbles or whatever are better than a wonder strike/volley based on the fact that the probability of them happening are much less (more individuals, touchs, passes, opportunites for mistake, interceptions, etc).

but the difference with zidane's was the technical complexity of the strike. i can't remember a volley being scored like that (with the ball coming from that position and how high zizou struck it and with his weaker foot and for it to be so accurate), to say it was simply a volley is sacrilege. on that basis, messi's was simply a dribble (he does several not dissimilar probably every day in training).

the other difference in terms of what makes a goal great is the stage on which it was scored. not only do i doubt many players could technically score zizou's goal but the fact it was the critical goal in a European Cup final makes it more special, as I also think only a truly great player would have actually took that volley on.

the same way he had the bottle to do that with his pen in the world cup final last year.;)
