i work for one at the moment (only 11 more days of it). + he's very good at oneupmanship (like anyone fecking cares!).

classic example.

work colleague got an unexpected freebie upgrade to an ipone 4... 1 week later, said oneupmancock comes back from hol, claiming his kid had lost his ipone3... :lol:

Did you give $hit service though that evening? In that case you deserved naff all and got exactly what you service warranted.

I often find a lot of service staff think that have a right to deserve a tip even if they ignore you most the night, slap the food on the table in a huff and make it clear that they don't want to be at work. In that case they will get sod all from me.

Vic, I worked in the service industry myself, but in a supermarket. Why should I not get tipped for helping a customer to their car? Or for providing exceptional service?

That's why I disagree so much about the restaurants. At the end of the day, Supermarket or Resturant, your still the face of the business. Why should one get tipped but not the other?

You are correct in a way if they have basically just slapped your food down and sodded off but if they have gone beyond the call of duty and made your day/evening enjoyable then they do deserve a tip, no matter how small.

You need to remember these people usually work unsocial hours to serve you for something stupid like £6 an hour.

Indeed, they do work unsocial hours. But if they don't go above & beyond the call of duty, and actually make me feel like a valued customer, why should I tip?

Where do you draw the line? Would you tip someone in McDonalds for bringing your burger to the table? What about Pizza Hut? Or Pizza Express?

Totally, if they don't make yo feel valued, don't go a small way to make your evening enjoyable then don't tip.

I read that someone tips the hairdresser, I would't do that personally, I've already paid that person directly for that service.
 
It's highly unlikely that the person who served you food/drink owned the establishment and are may well not be on a great wage.

The cost of the bill, after covering overheads goes to the owner, not the service staff who are probably on minimum wage.

In the case of my hairdresser for example, he owns the company so I know that £20 goes to him and his business, I don't need to tip to enhance his wage.

Tipping is clearly a personal thing.

I like to tip my hairdresser because she is good at what she does and doesn't have overinflated prices!
 
Whoever keeps leaving skid marks and smells in the office toilet. There is a toilet brush and air freshener so they have no excuse.

There are only 6 other ladies on this floor so it's one of them is a dirty cow :evil:

Waitressing is f**kin hard going sometimes, esp if you worked where I did.....Jesus christ all us girls would run around like blue arsed flys...

Back and fouth, back and fourth.....making sure all steps of serving are adhered to...

Making sure you have all the drinks you want, all the sauces, checking your meals are up to standard....

Carrying all them piping hot f**kin plates then clearing all your sh*t and crap away....:evil:

How can you say that doesnt deserve a PERSONAL TIP :spank:
 
Today's general annoyance is more specific than general. I have just received my tickets for Swedish House Mafia but due to house move I can't go. Having them in my hand is rubbing real salt in the wound!! :(
