Free Raves

I have heard this year the rave scene in England has gone up tremendously.

Has anyone ever been to one before?

Been to free parties in abandoned warehouses. Not for a few years though.

Its nice to see em making a comeback... Rumour has it there is one in Derbyshire somewhere, but its a bit too far away for me.

They are suppose to be rife in the Essex area.
There was one recently in Cornwall, where 4000 people attended and the police were so out numbered they couldn't stop it. It went on all weekend 8)

Went to one a few months back near Wembley. It was on an industrial estate in an old bakery! There were bread ovens lying around and flour all over the floor!

Oooh - I'm in Derbyshire - care to elaborate ?

I can't tell you too much mate, as the girl who I heard from is only a very casual aquaintence. I believe its North Derbs, near Bakewell.

Where abouts in Derbs are you, do you know Kegworth? There is a site a couple of miles from there which would be perfect.

Have spoke with peeps about hiring a Genny and putting something on, but I think people are a bit scared of getting equipment confiscated.

:p There are loads going on up here over the summer. This year I have already been to two:

One beach party 15 miles North of here with about 500 folk
Second one about 5 miles North with about 200 folk

There was also one at a historic castle at the start of the summer, and one in a huge basement a few weeks back8)

Next weekend = Huge party in a forest just out of town!

That was in the news on the tv yesterday too.. when they mentioned it was in Primrose Hill I laughed and thought they might be your neighbours Russ ;)

Was it good? type of people?

I wasn't expecting much but it was really good! We were told to go to a pub in a certain area, then txts came through just before it started with the location. We jumped in cars and drove over to the industrial estate. It was in one of the industrial units. The large area downstairs was the 'Main Room', with a table set up with the decks on, and a few lights and lasers. There was a transit van backed in at the back, selling beers, Smirnoff Ice and water. They were playing mainly trance downstairs, then upstairs in 'The Office' it was more house and breakbeat. We only lost power once, which was surprising as the whole thing was running off a double socket! The people were sound, just like the people you meet clubbing, I was expecting everyone to be a bit pikey

I live just the other side of Ashby de la Zouch in a place called Swadlincote so I know Kegworth / Donnington etc well.

Only way to put something like that on without being arrested / having everything confiscated is to either get permission from the landowner (which removes half the fun) or ensuring there are enough people there that the coppers can't shut it down (which is tricky) - would love to though - I'm an anarchist at heart.

I always imagine there being pikey or crusty types.

I know that place very well, we had many friends from that area when I use to go to Passion

Used to be a legendary venue. I had many a good night in there and often felt decidedly ropey for a few days afterwards.

Unfortunately, over recent years it's turned into a club that seems dedicated to hard house and dodgy hard trance.

I am supposed to be playing there Oct 6th though (for Red Room Revival) so it'll be good that night - excuse the plug.

BTW what years did you used to go (I was predominately 97-2000 and a few random times since for Club Classics in the New Year), I wonder if we know some of the same people from years gone by ?

Between 96 and 2000 it was one of my first clubs 8)

Its good to see that there are peeps here who also cut their clubbing teeth at passion, Ahhh when trance was good!

Last time I went to passion was about 3 years ago when they used to bang the crap trance in the red room and and had the good music in the main room... think it was Morillo and MYNC.

Anyway, there is a night on there soon Stanton Warriors and Yousef which mightn't be too bad. Although, I will need at least another 3 months to recover from Ibiza before I go out again.

I know Swad well hound... I'm in Loughborough, if anyone gets the balls to put something on I'll PM you.

PS. Know any wealthy landowners?

MYNC
I know Mark & Nick quite well. Did you know that Nick's bought a small club in LoBro. It's being done out as we speak and should be open by the start of October - hopefully be something similar to the red room of old.

The new night at The Emporium is called Speaker Freaker isn't it. Looks pretty good actually. Just hope they can make a go of it based on the fact that people in the area only seem to be interested if the musics played at 150bpm and cued up by someone called BK (or similar)

Eek - I wouldn't be surprised if our paths had crossed at some point. I'd have been the one pulling strange faces while sat on the grubby mattress in the chill out (although that doesn't really narrow it down too much, does it ?)

I've always imagined free raves to be full of hippie toerags who cant afford to pay to get into a club! I've been to loads of legal raves, Raindance, Dreamscape etc, but none illegal as yet :D

Wow !! I'd have loved to have gone - it's my greatest regret in life that I didn't go to Fantazia at Donnington Park when it was right on my doorstep (well not my greatest regret, that would be something like not trying harder at uni or sleeping with more girls when I had the chance, but it comes pretty close)
