For anyone who has flown recently.....

It's the liquids/toiletries that will be the problem - they're banned on all flights at the mo so even if you squeezed your stuff into a tiny little bag for hand luggage you wouldn't be able to take any toiletries and you might be a bit sweaty/smelly after a few days  ;)

Other option is buying there your shampoo and your stuff and then a) leave it in Ibiza or b) try to skip it back home, I'm not sure how it would be in the spanish airports ;)

Bec from BAA:

Customers travelling from the UK will be able to take on board as hand baggage one cabin bag no bigger than 45cm x 35cm x 16cm, the size of a small laptop bag, inclusive of wheels and handles

Cabin baggage MUST NOT contain:

Any cosmetics
Any toiletries
Any liquids
Any drinks
Cigarette lighters (Cigarette lighters may not be checked into the hold. They can be purchased airside and disposed of before boarding a flight)

I flew BA to Stuttgart last weekend. We checked in our luggage at Heathrow but would have normally taken it as hand luggage. We werent too worried though as luggage comes through pretty quick at Stuttgart.
There were no liquids or other things (like lighters, makeup etc) allowed through security at heathrow.

However, when we got to Stuttgart to check in with BA on the way back, the German woman checking us in was very proud to announce that there were no restrictions on any luggage from Stuttgart to anywhere in the world and we were allowed bring our bags on as hand luggage and have whatever we wanted in them (liquids, scissors etc).

Is it free alcohol on all BA flights?

So the moral of the story is if you're a terrorist don't fly from England but you'll be ok elsewhere in Europe 8O

Was it taking much longer to check-in Stephen?? I can imagine some dopey birds having to repack their luggage cos they've put a nail varnish or something in their hand luggage

You don't care about the restrictions you're just bothered about free alcohol  ;)

Yeah it was free alcohol on BA flights but Im pretty sure they wont be handing out a couple of bottles of rose if you ask for it!!

Another point to note is that the liquid/lighter etc ban is only for going through security. You can buy whatever you want in duty free and bring it on board, unless you are flying to the USA where there is a total ban on all the restricted items. Your not even allowed bring water onto flights to the USA. Airlines like American Airlines and others who charge for drink are making a fortune.

Re: time at check-in. We checked in online beforehand and got there about and hour and a half before departure and it was all really quick for the bag drop. Normal checkin looked busier and I would say for destinations like Ibiza you should give yourself plenty of time. Also getting through security took a long time and it was a real quiet part of the day. I would hate to see it in the evening.......so give yourself plenty of time.

Nooooo :( :( :(
Can't you postpose your big travel?
The previous week is Pep's birthday

Cant you take him to London for his birthday

We leave on the 15th, its Jon's birthday on the 21st and we plan on being at the Taj Mahal for then :p

Thanks Stephen, I'd picked up on most of that from news but just wanted to double check with someone who'd flown recently.

We're on that 6am flight to Ibiza and that's normally one of the first flights out of Stansted in a day so hopefully won't be too bad, I think we're just not going to bother sleeping and get to the airport really early and if we're hanging around I'll just have to hit the bar - what hardship  ;)

You will be fine at 4am or 5am.....it will be dead at that time.
I would suggest you get there around 4.30am....that will be more than enough time.

He'd love London as a birthday present, but I doubt I can't make it again the next weekend.

THat's a classy birthday 8)
