Es Vedra - my story & Lost...

We made our way up sa talaia back in September after a waiter at a local restaurant told us it was the highest point on the mountain, he also mentioned about there being a shrine to the victims of the plane crash. When we were up there we couldn’t locate it, we managed to find the huge television masts.

I am just wondering from the photos below can you tell if were we at the highest point, and where is the shine located in relation to the television masts?

Here are a few photos I took:)
Thanks

Ibiza Airport up until 1971 was a very difficult airport to land at, due to a big, high rise hotel that was built close by. The Hotel was called the Augusta and was owned by a powerful local family. Pilots refused to land at Ibiza until the hotel was taken down. The owner refused, and there was a huge political row over the whole affair that turned nasty.
Unfortunately, when Madrid got involved in the argument, the brand new hotel had to be demolished, and to this day old scores are still being settled over the incident.
The Tower overlooking Es Vedra was where a young french man burnt himself to death in 2001 in a ritual ceremony. There are still many ancient, cult and pagan groups worshiping in the area and they recruit naive people to this day. Disappearances of persons still happens in Ibiza so always be careful to stay away from the recruiting agents for these cults.:twisted:

As long as they only want the french, then thats fine.

I saw these agents last year, they were hawking for young naive French people outside Cafe Mambo 8)

Yes I bumped into some of them along the San An promenard outside Bar M, giving out free drinks and playing bongo drums.
They seem to be more prevalant these days, so Tourists should be made aware of them,

Great Pic Greco! Never knew it could look so imposing and big.

Reminds me of the mountain from Speilbergs Close Encounters! (3rd kind)!

Ses Roques Altes is not realy on Sa Talaia.
But if you go up there, just open your eyes and you will find the way.

I once spent the afternoon at cala d'hort with powerful binoculars staring at the rock, desperate to see a goat, but no luck they kept hiding. Did see some rather large birdlife though.

I wonder if the goats would like to cross over the water.. I wonder how they got there!

Probably by goat-boat.

The Island is private property and the owner decided back in 1992 to put some goats on the island. Its very simple why, because there, they can't run away.
As there is no water there, they have to be supplied regularly with fresh water.

Some years ago, and I don't know if this is still available, you could do guided tours to the island and hike up the mountain.

it would be great to stand on Es Vedra.... :D

i nearly had to sleep overnight inside the watchtower last month when i was over cycling and forgot where i put my bike when i left it behind a bush halfway up the mountain....
