England World Cup Squad

Wasn't Henry playing as a winger at that point?

He was indeed...he was playing on the left wing. It wasn't until he joined us in '99 that Wenger played him as a striker.

Trezuguet - ok, i'll give you...the French strikers scored ONE goal all tournament...:)

My point is - if you have a fantastic midfield like France did in '98...(like England have in 2006!) then you can win the thing.

;) Ok call me a pedant, thats pedant not peasant!! Yes you are right, our midfield (well cole, lampard & gerrard certainly not beckham) have scored at least 60 goals between them this season, so I wouldnt worry too much about what the strikers are doing when they have that kind of firepower coming in behind them?

beckham is now the weakest link imo.

id play Gerrard on the right, and have lampard and Carrick central, with joe cole left.

you need that protection in front of the back 4. and on the evidence that ive seen so far, neither Gerrard nor lampard would be suited playing in that holding role, cos it takes away their forward strength.

The thing is, everyone knows Becks is the weak link... but Sven still plays him. He must be getting a cut of the merchandising!

NO way is beckham the weak link, hes been Real Madrids best player for 2 seasons now.

The bloke is a genius in his own right, maybe not blessed with ****in outragous tricks like ronaldhino or henry, but no1 has vision or determination like him.

If you geezas watch Real Madrid in La Liga, you would know that every critic, newspaper, pundit ect. think wonders of Beckham and even the most hard up real madrid faithful ( the ones like the nazis!) Love the bloke cos he is still great.

Hu u gonna play instead?

Lennon? think not, fair enough i fink hes incredible but u dnt get the same balance and crossin abailty especcially if were playin that streak of piss crouch.

What newspaper do you mean? 8O 8O
Madrid newspaper don't have high credibility when it's about Real Madrid, they usually say what the club wants to read

And When iv bin to the Bernabeu this this season n the madrid fans see ya english all the say is like ' ahh Beckham, beckham, he is good' ( in a sorta wierd spanish speakin english voice )

sorry mr sausage:lol: , but i disagree with your comments wholeheartedly. nearly every merengue game is shown live in the UK now and i always try and make an effort to read the spanish press after the wknds games....................and in no way have I seen, heard or read glowing stuff of Beckham.

he is part of the reason why madrid have been so inconsistent, dysfunctional and unsuccessful in the last couple of years.

On the subject of SWP....12mths ago he was a regular in the England squad and was playing regular football for City and was turning in consistently good displays in what was back then an above average team in the premiership. It's ironic that his pursuit for more success has ultimately led to him missing out on this world cup, as it looks like regardless of team position, regular football is more important in Svens eyes.

ahem...

- Ashley Cole
- Michael Owen
- Sol Campbell
- Theo Walcott

I think SWP has played as much football this season as these gentlemen.
I rest my case.

Mourinho killed SWP.

Just be thankful he never bought Rooney, or else he would be a £60million benchwarmer, with an impossible job of not being able to justify his ludicrously high price tag.

I do actually think there's some mileage in Ian Wright Wright Wright's claim that Sven's done it to get back at him. But the SWP was never a great player. A swift right winger who doesn't get nearly as involved enough, and as I said it was only Jose throwing money around in his trademark fashion that makes it such a shock that he's been left out. Of course he shone at Man City, they pretty much built their whole team around him ,and he got carried away with all the hype. Which he clearly hasn't been able to live up for when up against the wall, save a few runs in the friendly games.

I must admit the teams growing on me. Essentially, and a lot of people forget this, the main problem with a lot of England teams, esepcialy in tournaments, is that they all take their places for granted. It's good to see a bit of ruthlessness in Svens pick IMO. And Lennon is nothing short of dynamite. He installs abject fear into even the best of defenders.

Defoe won't win us the World cup. Wilcott will play out of his tiny little skin to impress peopls and live up to the hype. And the speed will be invauable when post Anfield Owen can't be bothered to get stuck in. How bad will a defneder feel when that rocket get's subbed on in the 74th minute, and Gerrards just started to find his range.

Wilcott aside, those player at full fitnees are the best (off their type) in their position in the world.

Scumball included. It's like watching your grandad with Alziemers setting in. A shadow of his former self. Rio's not half the defender Sol was.

Do you watch football..........at all.............ever???

Is this something you overheard in the fag room this morning whilst reading "Bunty"?
