Two thumbs up for Dubai and I hope this venue will be a success.
As long as only one Paris Hilton or Justin Bieber punter decides to skip Ibiza and rather go to the Dubai copy, I am just fine.
Crap to crap.

without being pedantic but the title is wrong...its in Ras Al Khaimah where this is proposed.. which is a completely different Emirate to Dubai. I wrote on a local site "is it April 1st". No way this will happen. Saying that, I often think that Dubai is more mental than other places at times....and i am not sure how some peple get away with things here that they wouldnt back home.

If it takes thousands of VIP and table service obsessed planks away from Ibiza then I don't think its necessarily a bad thing, some local business owners may obviously disagree but its gonna happen at some point. Ibiza/Miami/Vegas/Dubai/St Tropez etc.

UKIceyP - you're embarassing yourself.

Thing is, my problem with Dubai is pretty much to do with the migrant worker situation and the impression I get of its nightlife being this shitey vacuous fakevip glitzy r-and-bee 'tonight we drink from the bottle' kinda wank. Have no interest in ever going there, but can usually muster up some false enthusiasm if a colleague or friend says they're going there for holiday etc. My cousin lives in Oman and seems to be there fairly regularly and loves it but I'm just not convinced its my kinda place at all.

Yet Icey's problem with the place seems to stem from it being an Islamic country. Notice some of the earlier comments have now been edited by mods. Should have just left them as they are and let people make up their own minds.

This is a good comment fatphilb. There are mis-conceptions about the lifestlye here. I think you are confusing migrant workers here compared with Qatar. Here, they are very well treated (to honest that is not the same as say 10 years ago). I have been at labour camps here and the facilities are actually superb and offer an opportunity and cash that these guys would not get at home. I can understand why it may not be your kinda place but i have to say, i love it. It keeps me on the straight and narrow (I have a blow out in Ibiza once a year, every year). I agree that all comments should be left.

- we don't like it when people view such comments out of context, which happens with today's search engines. if someone reads the entire thread then that's ok, but i don't want to take the risk. moha, hope you didn't take offence. as you can see from the rest of the replies icebaer is in a very small minority of one ;)

Good reply in the comments section

"Good luck to this project but have not had an ingredient that is Ibiza and has guaranteed its success among the revelers: drugs, alcohol, sex and lawlessness tolerated by the authorities. In places where laws are laws and are to be fulfilled you will never prosper something like Ibiza. The millions of clubbers' who come here in summer want ecstasy, cheap vodka and continuous drunkenness, and the ability to have sex in every corner without anyone saying anything. That is why Las Vegas or Dubai sites will never pose a real competition to Ibiza."
