> Dorado Live Shows @ Santos 2019 [6 dates]

First on stage this time was Morning Drivers, instead of Lucy Sky & The Diamonds as originally announced, who are one of the Ibiza bands that play more often and with a bigger following. They share two members and influences (Two Door Cinema Club is definitely one of them) with Billy Flamingos, who also played some weeks ago. Right now they're recording their second album but they based their set on their debut Perspectiva (2017). First time I've seen them in acoustic and I quite enjoyed it.

Zahara first played in Ibiza back in 2012 at El Sitio and she returned in 2016 to play at the Sueños De Libertad festival. Nowadays the singer from Jaén is one of the biggest names in the spanish indie scene and you can spot her name on the line-ups of most of the major festivals in Spain. This time María Zahara Gordillo Campos presented her latest album called Astronauta (2018), the sixth in her discography. Favourite moments included "El fango", "Guerra y paz" as a duet with Martí Perarnau (Mucho), "Camino a L.A." (dedicated to Adrián, who brought her to the island the two previous times) or "Hoy la bestia cena en casa". When we thought it was over the resident dj Colin Peters played "Torturas en los bares" by Trepàt and she started dancing like crazy around the stage during the duration of the song, which was a big contrast to the rest of the evening that was spent standing in front of the mike with a guitar. The crowd was gagging for more, chanting for an encore for various minutes but it was eleven o'clock already and the music had to stop. One of the best shows of these four summers.

Foto finish ? del #doradoliveshow que hicimos ayer en @santos_ibiza ❤️ . . Gracias!?

Have been to Santos a few times

Uncle Sal have played every year at Dorado Live Shows since it started for a simple reason: they're the best band on the island by a mile. The concerts of the blues rockers usually last various hours (as it will happen tomorrow afternoon at Can Jordi) and include some pretty mind-blowing covers (their tribute show to Neil Young the 7th of december will be the mutt's nuts!) but with a 45-minute slot they based their set on their last album The american dream (2019), from which we heard the self-titled song, "Drinkin' days" and "Snakebite fever", and their previous one You ain't no bluesman (2017), from which we heard "Hard life", the rarely played live "Scarecrow's waltz" and the closing number "Three days in New Orleans" that merged into "I walk on gilded splinters" and "Iko iko" as a tribute to the late Dr. John. Nothing from their first release Little cabin music (2015) this time but instead we got a cover of "Tallahatchie" by Jimbo Mathus. What made this show special was the fact that for one night only they played as a quintet with Dennis Herman (of Estudios Mediterráneo fame) on the slide guitar. A good dose of ass-shaking boogie rock.

In between the last two concerts of the season, the promoter Diego Calvo handed over a check to the actress Maggie Civantos in representation of the non-governmental organization
Save A Girl Save A Generation with a value of 5.106€, money that has been collected throughout this year's six dates.

Marlango were supposed to play at the Recinto Ferial back in 2008 but for some unknown reason the show was cancelled and they never came back until now (they played in Formentera in 2013 though). The combo formed by the actress Leonor Watling (wife of uruguayan singer Jorge Drexler) and Alejandro Pelayo has recorded seven albums in fifteen years, Technicolor (2018) being the more recent. A time in which they've gone from trio to duo and from english to spanish. Their blend of pop and jazz was a good way to end the season with a touch of elegance. Both encouraged the audience to request songs, getting a great feedback. Hits like "Poco a poco", "Dame la razón", "El veneno", "Puede", "Si yo fuera otra" or "Lo que sueñas vuela" couldn't be missing. On the covers front, "Semilla negra" by Radio Futura, "Via con me" by Paolo Conte, "Creep" by Radiohead, the bolero "Veinte años", "Nos ocupamos del mar" by Javier Krahe, "Insurrección" by El Último de la Fila (also covered at DLS by Iván Ferreiro last year), an emotional rendition of the classic "Pena penita pena" and the ranchera "En el último trago" were among the chosen ones. Simply fabulous.
