Do you worry about getting old?

Just a question I thought I'd put forward on a Tuesday morning! And knowing there are many different ages on the board, though we might get an interesting discussion going.

The reason I ask is because:

Last night I dropped my 16 year old brother off at a school Halloween party. He jumped out of the car (as if I was far too uncool and past it to be seen with him lol   ) and went to join his gang of mates. I was talking to my mum about it afterwards, and was saying I could not believe I was now almost 23, it seems like only yesterday I was 16 and going to my friends' parties etc.
My mum (who is in her fifties) was saying how she can't believe her age now, apparantly her thirties and forties went by in the blink of an eye, she said she hates the fact that she's getting older, and there's nothing to look forward to at her age.

For me personally, the thought of nearing my mid-twenties is terrifying! I know to some people it's still very young, but to me, it's scary how fast life is passing me by, I still feel like I'm 18 inside, then I realise that was nearly five years ago! 8O Scary :!: 8O

Discuss!

That whole mid-20s era, in retrospect, was an eternity compared to how fast the 30s are going by.

I've been in relatively responsible corporate positions since age 24 and back then I remember wanting to be 30 just so business and government people I dealt with would take me more seriously. Now I wish I could have frozen the ageing process at 30!

The main thing that bothers me is kids. I want them and I don't want to be too old when I have them (would like to see them grow up and all that) but I don't want them anytime soon.

I'm also fast running out of time to fulfill my dream of becoming a rock star

Yup, I know that feeling. Although, I guarantee you'll be looking back at being 23 when your 28 saying, "Christ, I was really young then!" Try not worry about it and just fill your time with loads of good things to remember. The worst part is when you hear a song that you don't think is that old and it's on a retrospective montage TV show "I love 1982" for example. Then you realise the song is more than 10 years old! Even worse, watched the Goonies the other day, it's more than 20 years old. I remember going to the cinema to see it. Arrrrgh!!! :D

Is that really more than 20 years old? 8O Dear god... where's my cane?! :?

I forget how old I am all the time, if I'm ever asked how old I am I turn to Paul, he knows I dont. Age doesnt bother me in the slightest, why worry about something you have no control over :D

OMG 8O

I went to see The Goonies at the cinema too AND I remember we had to sit on the left hand side of the cinema because my mum wanted to smoke!!!!! :?

I think it's justifiably scary but not so much for me because:

A) I'm in London and people tend to be much older on the social scene here.

B) I'm not planning on having kids so I'll still be out having fun in 20 years time and STILL won't be the oldest person at it.

C) I've always found 30 somethings much more interesting/attractive anyway.

Jeembo you are so right, i Just turned 29 and i was like "god i was a puppy" looking a photos from my 35th b-day. And back then i was sooo worried. Im not worried about turning 30. it will evoke some tears for sure, BUT life start at 30 they say. And the social scene is gettingo lder because people dont commit to kids and house, morgage and serious stuff anymore in their 20s like maybe 20 years ago. I wont be having kids before late 30´s if ever, and marriage. I did that, so im in no hurry. Im single, 29 and still feel in better shape mentally that i was when i was a puppy myself!

so enjoy life beckiboo, you´re really really young. you have the best years to come! ;)

26 was the Optimum age for me

Earning enough
Spending a lot
Having Fun
Reasonably fit
Indulgence was the theme

Now 32
Earning considerably more
Spending about the same but on different things
Having fun in different ways and with broader outlook
Unfit
Life balance is the theme

And yes, I worry about getting old, but this little fella makes it all seem like life has a purpose.... 8)

I'm turning 22 in 10 days... it's weird because I have wanted to go to university and have fun and be in my twenties since I was about 12 years old and listening to pete tong and 2Unlimited (  ) and now I'm 22 I don't really want to get much older, but it's inevitable so I'm not too bothered!

anyway, according to L'Oreal wrinkles just disappear with the right creams so blatently I'll never age

it is scary however looking at the freshers that have just arrived in Oxford at my college (I left last year but still got a lot of friends studying) and how incredibly young they look, but it's nice to know that they also seem fairly immature and I feel like I've grown up well, as undoubtably I was just the same when I arrived.

jam man lol
unfit

PMSL :D

but with ages the beauty of knowing what to care about is more present than at age 26 where appearences was everything!

Far too late for me to worry about it

But hey - I feel great, don't look too bad and still party as hard as I did 20 odd years ago (just take a little longer to recover!!)

In my opinion you're as old as you feel and you're only here once so go for it ;)

Hell it wont be that long before i'm taking my "little one" to the pub

Im at a stage of my life where everything seems perfect for me. I have honestly NEVER been happier. I am seperated to be divorsed, which was a very wise decision altho very very hard to make. Im 29, still young and semi-fit but not looking 22 no more. But I accept my age. And I feel very very comfortable with whats to come.
And I bet having kids for some, makes it all worth while and wakens insticts you never thought u had. I suggest everyone trying to be a peace with their age and making the best of it. Its the only was you´re gonna be happy. By living now. I used to never "live now" worry about bills, worry about my future, and never dare do what I dreamed about.
A year ago i was miserabel, in a dead end relationship and my dream was to become single again and move to London. Well, Im forfilling that dream now. So carpe diem my friends, that is what life is about. No regrets...

But surely you're much more attractive at 29 than 22??!?

I genuinely don't understand why the over-fascination with early twenties youth. I never have done either...Since my late teens I've always believed the 30s to be the more *phwaaar* years.
Maybe it's because the g__s always seem to be quite well preserved or something?!?!

Can someone explain please?

Age doesn't bother me in the slightest, if someone asks me how old I am I always have to think about it cos I can never remember, a woman interviewed me in the street the other day and when she asked me how old I was I said 26 cos that's how old I thought I was, funk knows where the last 3 years have gone then  I always just think all the people I hang around with we're all the same age anyway - sorry Bec  ;)
