do you get sharks in Ibiza?

Check out http://www.shark-info.ch/SI2_98e/mediterranean.html for information on sharks in the Mediterranean.

As our buddy Tiger mentioned "The last accident which resulted in a bodily injury occurred on September 3, 1993, 200 m off the coast of Playa de les Arenes, a beach near Valencia (Catalonia) on the Spanish coast of Costa Blanca." You can read it in the article too.

8O I didn't imagine it would have been reported anywhere on the internet, hehe. So the man only lost a toe.
Anyway, the article says it wasn't identified, but it really was. For it's a very visited beach, many boats were patroling it the days after, so it was finally caught two days after the attack and the reports told it was a bull shark (the bull sharks are the most common sharks that are exhibited on big aquarium facilities). It probably lost it's way because they don't use to prowl near the shores.

I also saw once on a TV programme the video of an Italian fisherman and his son on a boat near the shore of ... somewhere in Italy, and their bait was suddenly attacked by a big white shark. They started to shout to release it as the shark was pulling and shaking the boat, and meanwhile the boy was recording the scene but he was terrified as he was yelling. It was really big. Very scary, like in Jaws.

Anyway as the report of the link say, it's very very unlikely to be attacked by a shark in the Med.

lol, i wish i had never posted this now, hehe oh bugger it i'll still be having having a dip, been alright for the last 4 years so..... more chance of gettin hit by lightning i reckon 8)

just ensure that you swim next to children which can easily be thrown into an attacking sharks path.

dont feel guilty, its nature, survival of the fittest and all that....

Alex, that is the funniest thing------ I just laughed out lous as I read it!!!
Maybe you can punch the kid in the head as you throw him to the shark!!
:)

whatever it takes really, if you feel you need to punch the infant, then please go for it.

survival of the fittest, they'd do it to you ;)

so logically, taking out out that little kid not only saves you and the others around you, it helps to ensure propogation of your genes.

What if you spare the kid and just bang the shark?

My guess is no matter how many times you 'bang' it, you'll never please it enough to stop it taking a bite out of you 8)

Ok, I know where the door is- I'll get me coat

really near the shore. At least it was Christmas and no one would venture into the water that time of the year.

[q]And it's been reported that there're Big White Sharks in the Med, but as their meals don't include seals like in South Africa, Australia or California[q/]

You have to be kidding me right?! The Mediterranium(sp!) is far too warm for Great White Sharks! they wouldn't

there would be sharks in the Med, but only small ones that wouldn't dream about attacking humans. they'd live off small to medium sized fish and not much else. I've swam and dived with sharks a few times and they never pose as a problem. There's only a few species out there that are threatening to people, but you wont find any of them in the Med. Just remember with the crowds of people in the water, thats enough to scare anything swimming around out into deeper water, regardless of what you saw in Jaws! plus also remember, sharks mainly feed at night, not during the day!

Like someone else said, the only sharks around Ibiza and the club and bar owners!

Happy swimming 8)
