DJ Diplo makes a mess at the es Vedrà viewpoint with hundreds of people

Spain's Balearic Islands have stopped using influencers to promote holiday hotspots and warned that 'selfie tourism' is ruining the region's most beautiful beaches.

LOL, seems attracting selfie tourists to scenic spots via influencers has been the government policy of Balearic Islands for quite some time, but now it's suddenly the evil tourists who are to blame with the authorities washing their hands and even scoring points "protecting" the islands from the problem they created themselves

Nobody (beyond the confines of your passive-aggressive post) called tourists 'evil'

But the situation did get seriously out of hand. The authorities had to act. Basic common sense...

That's a very confusing article. It first suggests, among others, Torre des Savinar as a "legal and safe" alternate viewpoint towards Es Vedra.

A few paragraphs later it mentions videos suggesting "illegal access to Torre des Savinar". So is the tower accessible or not??

I'll happily help here.

the tower itself is closed, meaning you cannot enter and go to up to the top of the tower as you used to be able previously. sadly though, there are still people who try to climb in and up anyway. the closure of the tower has come as a reaction to the tower being vandalized, some idiot thought it was a good idea to spray a graffiti on the inside wall of the top bit - on a watchtower of the 18th century mind!

there is a marked path now though which you can follow if you want to visit the area around the tower as such and enjoy the views.

dean's right in what he says in the article, it was an unpopular decision, but it was the correct decision. the situation has improved a lot in 2025. of course it's not perfect, but it's genuinely a lot better now.
