Jon's work are buying him a digital camera for his leaving present so he might have some ideas for you. I think any of them with pixels over 6.0 is generally a good camera. It depends what you want to do with it really, whether you need fancy lenses and stuff 8O
I keep telling Jon just to get a normal, easy to work one, but he wants to push his budget as much as he can and get a camera with all kinds of gadgets on it! :lol:

I don't understand pixels :roll: I just want a really small one cos it will be Tom that has to carry it out clubbing and everywhere :lol:
 
I had the same problem so in the end went into Jessops on Oxford Street and told the guy want I wanted and my budget.

Had some good deals on them as well, some even half price:)

We've got a Jessops in Ealing, I didn't think to try there, I was just looking online at Comet and Currys, which one did you get then??
 
I got one last year think its sony or cannon - god I NEVER use it can't work all the features etc out:evil: - may put it on ebay!

I want one as small as possible and I'll pay up to £300, that's all the criteria I've got :lol:

there was a sony one reduced from 250 - 150 or soemthing, yet with a decent memory card and case worked out about 200plus

cant remember name etc but will try and remember, I told work to buy it for my leaving do so will not receive it until my last day

Nowadays, you can get 7, 8 or even 10 megapixels in very compact cameras. I wouldn't recommend getting anything lower than 7 at this point.

The pixels are basically the number of dots inside any photo. The more dots, the better the resolution - so the more dots the better (in general).

As for brands, Cannon is good as are Casio and Nikon (for pocket-sized cameras). I haven't heard rave reviews of Kodak's quality though I think they're supposed to be quite easy to use.

That's my other question, will the memory card I had for my old digital be able to be used on my new one or will I need to buy a new one :?

So you reckon a pocket-sized one up to 10 megapixels is what I should be looking for??
 
after this info I will go back to jessops tomo to make sure it has over 7 pixles.

re: memory card I'm no sure as I have never had one, bec has, as we are travelling I want one which hold about 400 photos, these seem to retail between £40-50

Ya, go in the 7 - 10 range.

There's more to it, of course. If you get a 10 megapixel camera with bad optics (like Samsung, for example) then it could be no better than getting a good Cannon 7 mpx.

So, your best bet is to set your price range (which you've done) and then go as high on the mpx as you can within that range while sticking to the better brands.

The CNet website always has a good comparison of some the latest models. Some of the model numbers could be slightly different as the site is American (the UK CNet doesn't do this, for some reason), but you'll get the idea.

With 6 megapixels you can have good big size pictures, you don't notice the difference in a standar pic.

The cam is really small, handy and big screened. And top quality both pics and videos (this is the cam Pep crashed in Viena). You would need a new memory-card cos the canon one doesn't work with a sony.
Other than that you can get a new canon ixus
Pixmania works really well in Spain, btw
 
Yeah 6 megapixels has always been fine for me. Unless you're planning to do anything professional with your pictures, you'd no way need a 10megapixel camera. Plus they cost about £800!

I don't even know how many pixels my old one had :? :oops: No I don't think I'll be needing it for professional photos just the usual us lot getting funked photos :lol: ;)
 
Check out the Casio Exilim, my mate has one and it's super small, takes lovely pics and the build quality is fantastic.

Keep in mind there's a difference bewteen digital zoom (which zooms in on the same picture) and optical zoom (take the picture closer) - optical is what you want.
