I am far from a house mudc trainspotter and was wondering if one of the more knowledgable of you guys could highlight what the main musical differences would be between defmix, subliminal and defected nights at pacha?

many thanks!:)

Def Mix is very DJ dependant. It will vary from the good (Romero, Toshiee), to the Unbelieveably amazing (Morales, Knuckles)

Defected has also gone that way. They do have some brilliant guests (Vega, Morales, I'll even add Joey Negro), Some very very good ones (DJ Spen, Dennis Ferrer), though then sometimes I've been and they'll get Martin Solveig on, who CAN play the most amazing disco music, though will bore you to pieces with 4 hours of Africanism nonsense. And then you could hit rock bottom and get someone like Sandy Rivera sending you to sleep! :spank: The residents are all very very competant though. Dunmore himself is worth the entrance fee alone, especially as he has a record box better than 99% of the DJing planet, and knows the defected crowd better than anyone (being owner and all...).

Subliminal is Morillio. It kills me to say this about an idol, though I personally haven't heard a good set from him for a good few years (though that is comparing him to total dj perfection IMO!). BUT if you like the Electro stuff, then he's definitely your man, and even if you're not, you will be guaranteed a good few tunes that will make you explode. The atmosphere at Subliminal is very 'Pacha' though, and good as it's guarantedd to be busy (maybe too busy, though it'll be good to take it all in, especially if it's your first time).

You can't go too far wrong with all 3, though if Defected have any Africanism Dj's, or Sandy Rivera, or if Def Mix have one of their 'second tier' dj's playing (which usually means harder or tougher, (and with less chance of hearing some classics!), which isn't always my cup of tea), I'd steer clear.

I found that Morillo at Subliminal plays much much deeper and more electro than at any other time I've seen him in the world and I've seen him both in the UK and Canada. I don't know what it is.. I've just found that music gets much harder in Ibiza at times. He has his amazing moments too, but that's just what I've found in the times I've been there.

I think Junior Jack & Kid Creme are the ultimate at Defected... just crazy disco house to some harder stuff, but always spot on.

Again like Dan said, a lot of it is DJ dependent... but actually most nights are really DJ driven.

Cheers,
Terry

Sorry, I wanted to just make sure that ppl didn't think I"m slagging Morillo. He is my favorite house DJ still. Just saying that at Pacha, he plays a different style than when he plays elsewhere... even in another Ibiza club like Space.

And "Sea you there" is awesome hahaha!!

dont know whats funnier, p rick or the line in the background 'sea you in there!' surely the worst/best pun ever?

 Made my day, spotting that shot did I tell ya. I was in Orange Corner, think it was about 1pm and I hadn't eaten yet. Grabbed Tony the manager and demanded a celebratory pint!

Ame and Osunlade at defected has to be my fave line up of the summer. not hear better music imo

in response to the earlier question. depends who's on really and what ye taste is

The F**k the police just tops it.:D :p :p

That was there all summer too. I wondered whether the fact it wasn't painted over said anything about the council's relationship with the police. But it was prolly just the manana (sp?) effect......

I live in Spain I know what you mean. I have become used to the fact that people need time to get things done.

Or some silly middle class parented white kid that had just discovered NWA at the start of the summer and was initiating some Wolfie Smith-esque anrchist revolution!

Hey, I'd known about them since February, there was just no suitable walls available. ()

It was always my understanding that Subliminal was only second to Pure Pach for being the most rammed night on the island?

In fairness, Thomsonfly hasn't let me go to a Subliminal night in a few years though.

I've seen Def mix (and Defected) have average attendances before, quite a few times infact. The ticket price (cheaper for "The Def's", top whack for Erick) confirms this maybe?
