defmix v sub v defected

I generally try not to miss Defected, it's on my must-see list again this year. It can be a little cheesy sometimes, but basically it's just really bouncy, good-time party music to put a smile on your face and keep you dancing all night. Plus, whereas in the El Divino days it was basically Kid Creme, Junior Jack and Martin Solveig on rotation, they have some incredible line-ups this year - Todd Terry and Kenny Dope on the same night for instance.

Def Mix is a strong contender for a visit too, I would probably regard it as the most 'serious' of the three and a chance to see some of the real pioneers. Frankie Knuckles' recent Essential Mix from Miami was top class.

There is absolutely no chance of me going to Subliminal Sessions. It has been a good label over the years and I have quite a few of their releases, but I'm afraid I can't stand Morillo. Can't really fault him in terms of selection, apart from it having too much of a 'greatest hits' feel at times, but in my experience he barely makes the effort to mix and spends half the night cutting the music altogether and demanding the crowd cheer him. It will probably be too crowded for comfort too.

thank you all - waiting to see what the line up is for rennaisance opening before committing - it seems very close to some of these dates for them still to be unconfirmed? hopefully as its earlier on in the season they wont be as rammed.

I have always loved Pacha from the first time I set foot in that place, but I had some of my 2 best nights out (in general!) over there last year. Subliminal was amazing (which had some other reasons then 'just an crazy party') but Defected the week before was, well, simply beyond words. Louie Vega & Kenny Dope played together for 4 hours and I think it's the most unbelievable and most brilliant set I have ever heard. The place was going crazy, everybody was screaming, people were crying (in a good way ;) ) and what not. It was one of those things you just cannot rationally explain.

But, like everybody else sais, it's all a matter of taste. Just keep the line-ups in mind and make your desicison. IMO, all three parties are very worth wile, alone for the fact that Pacha is a very special place.

All have their merits, but Subliminal will be the toughest musically!!

Morillo, whilst he is a ****, there is no doubt he is exceptionally talented!! It appears that he hasn't as many guests this year, so he will be playing longer sets, not like usually finishing the night at Pacha where he does play fairly dark & twisted!! The 7 hour sets he has played at Ministry lately have been outstanding, he's had to work at it, but delivered!!

I'm excited that Tim Deluxe has been added to the bill for when I'm at Subliminal this year :D I hope Morillo plays less dark and twisted house this year. When he's on top form, he's easily the best house DJ.
