Dance 88/89 Sankeys

Don't mind 90's classics myself, that was the era I started going clubbing etc. I've not made my mind up on going to this night yet, will see how the reviews come back as the season develops.

Anytime I've been to a strictly classics night it felt like it was the real deal as opposed to what's currently being played in the clubs :-)

Technically a 'classic' doesn't have to be an older tune, though. There are plenty of newer 'classics', granted, just not on the same scale as the older tunes.

Ps neilly303 did you used to post on the old Colours message-board? I recognise the name.

Rampling was asked the question recently if he would be playing old classics or modern day stuff at a gig he was doing in the UK. He said it would be modern as older crowd don't want to hear the classics every time they venture out!

A night badged as taking you back to the old school and Rampling turns up with a Macbook & plays two tracks from the start of 2016...yes that's what we all came to hear!

Take him off the line up and it will probably be a decent night.

What an arse that man is. Totally missing the whole point. Does he also not realise that it's 2016, and no one wants to hear him DJ unless it's classics?

my objection to Dumpling (and that dreadful wife) is based partly on the fact he's a grade a tit but also - more importantly - on the fact that's he not that good a DJ anymore. it's a sideline to his ego/identity crisis. he can't be arsed with music anymore and it shows.

the way to do a retro night without banging out obvious wedding classics all night is to play more obscure stuff from the era - house rave ragga hiphouse UK US doesn't matter whatever makes the party rock - I know loads of veterans in their 40s/50s who will play the odd classic in their set but always giving it a twist or tease it in/out of the mix to make it more interesting. that way it doesn't come across like listening to some tesco compilation. it keeps it fresh for djs and punters alike.

eg a guy called gerald voodoo ray - everybody knows this right. one of the most famous tunes from manchester, but how many people know the hardfloor mix? which is tonnes better imo OR the b-side of frankie knuckles tears OR out and out cheesers like sydney youngblood which I think have largely been forgotten but whose drum patterns evoke those early chicago productions eg raze break 4 love - then there's all those ancient oakenfold "elektra" tracks from 89-90 which are as balearic as it gets

However I think you can also include modern tracks that have been directly influenced by classic 303 productions eg the panorama remix of flashmob 'pieces' Now would the crowd really tell the difference? I dunno but the set sure as hell would flow and everyone would stagger home happy.

anyyyyywaaaay.... I'm sure Mr C knows his onions. Not seen him in years at least since some very dirty party at some pub in shoreditch one Bank Holiday Monday morning.

Best of luck to them all this season - I think it will be an 11th hour decision in our case.

I was a lurker on the slamboard rather than a poster! Rip the events! Passed a good few hours of the working day reading the abuse that was dished out!

RIP! Used to post on there a LOT, back in the day.

I went. Loved the music and the General vibe about the place.

Shame the club is not up to standard. Bit of a dive really and not a good layout. Roof terrace was pretty fresh but nothing compared to Pacha or Space.

Loved the old acid house tunes tho. For a night I would give it a thumbs up,especially if you are from the older generation or others looking for some history of house lessons.

Hope it continues

Made a change for a night - was fairly quiet last week and Adamski was only on for ten minutes. Graeme park was good though with less mainstream tunes.
