Record number of cases in the Uk today, broken the 30,000 barrier. So time to blame it on the pubs, bars and restaurants.

Oh, wait, they've all been closed for two weeks nearly. Blimey...we might have to blame it on the schools and colleges now. Oh, feck, and people were telling us that in early October when the stats went up in Sept.

They are running out of excuses now, folks...

??

update on balearics: we keep being at around 250 per 100k incidence which isn't great but not horrible neither (I think we're the second best zone of spain right after the canary islands).

same as elsewhere, sadly the death count is going up again and I think this week has been the worst for ibiza ever since the pandemic started - so far five people lost their lives this week due to covid. yes, all of them were elderly people, but they are lives just the same.

am truly hoping the good vaccine news keep coming and we'll start getting out of this horrible thing once it gets warmer again.

I read in the papers that Grant Schapps - transport sec, wants to reduce quarantine from 14 days to 7 as long as a couple of tests are taken - and paid for - by tourists returning. That's something, but doesn't help the chances of going outbound where any number of restrictions can apply, such as being tested here outbound, or on arrival, quarantining for 24hrs before a test result...all just so offputting.

I suppose we can all hope that as they now have some greek islands in the travel corridor (rather than the whole of Greece) they will do the same for Spain next spring if the Balearics can get their case numbers low again.

To me - if I can actually get out of the UK without quarantine/tests etc (ie part of the corridor) but simply filling in a few forms, I don't mind a week's quarantine on return; let's face it don't we all have a week in bed after a week in Ibiza??

Keep us updated on Ibiza Stivi, very useful information.

My missus came home with a pretty sad story from work last night.

She works at a special needs school.

Not long after they all returned in September, one of the teachers had covid symptoms one friday morning. For some reason, known only to himself, he decided to come into school in order to teach his classes. He got tested later that day and it turned out he was positive for Covid 19.

He'd taught 7 classes that day, and all 7 classes had to go home for 2 weeks isolation.

The follow on was also a high number of staff also caught Covid 19 and had to isolate, leaving a bit of a nightmare workload for the other staff and a trawl for supply teachers, which have been hard to find as other schools are missing staff too and the special needs stuff can be quite niche.

One of the teachers that caught it, and had a pretty rough ordeal with it, was two and a half months pregnant.

Unfortunately she had a miscarriage last week, with the added pain of having to go through it at home as the hospitals are limiting what they can do.

The doctor that spoke to her over the phone said there is no direct evidence yet that Covid can be a cause of the miscarriage but he believes it certainly could be a contributing factor in her case.

Sad story all round, fcuking gutted for her ?

A happy story, apologies it has nothing to do with coronavirus but I just wanted to share how proud I am of a good mate of mine.

I was about 5 meters away from him when he took a round through the neck in 2010 on a nightmare day.

Onward and upwards, been a tough few years for him and his family.

You might hear his Accrington accent if you fly with TUI in the future maybe ✈?‍✈️

Inspirational stuff mate. Too right you should be proud

I'm getting itchy. Just been looking at 21-night deals for an apartment on Formentera, June next year. Some good deals (ie under 3 grand) but they won't be there for ever - on the minus side cancel before May and you lose a grand, and insurance companies probably won't be interested if I book now. Just so bloody frustrating.....looks like at best finding somewhere on the mainland with no cancellation and having a lot fewer nights. Maybe do the long term stuff in September. It's a real pain with Formentera, few places have zero cancellation charges.
If only we knew what the situation will be like in summer.
Mind you, got my garage roof to fix before I go anywhere, and that ain't cheap... :-(

give me a big slap if not, but as of today I am confident that normal tourism will be fine all next summer. clubbing is a different discussion, but tourism per se...am sure we'll have a pretty normal summer next year

Am liking your optimism and would hope your right. Recently they have been talking about a vaccine on the news and they had a guy on that was positive he had the vaccine, rather then the placebo that I guess half the people in the trial had. Now I'd like to hope there is a vaccine soon to appear, but the cyncic in me thinks its maybe the media trying to give us some false hope, rather then the doom and gloom they normally report, Xmas on the horizon and all. Am guessing normal tourism back would mean a reliable vaccine, that pretty much all travellers have had?

As the vaccine doesn't seem to prevent infection, just lead to asymptomatic infection, I am less hopeful. A lot of the people wanting to travel are under 50 and for us in UK there seems to be no likely timeline for getting vaccinated. It seems most likely UK will use up all the stocks it has in sight vaccinating the over-50s, NHS staff, care home workers etc etc I would be surprised if the rest of us get near a vaccine before next Summer.

In the UK not everyone will be getting the vaccine, only those in high risk groups...similar to those who are entitled to flu jab.

just consider we had a mini season this year...
without:
- ANY testing
- ANY vaccines

we saw the result of this experiment by mid august when we suddenly had a spike here.

I really can't imagine we'll commit the same mistakes next year, the government's announcement re negative PCR test mandate is a clear sign of that.

as said before, clubbing (which implicates congregations of people) is a different subject, but tourism as such will definitely happen next summer.

So based on that we're not going to get access to a vaccine. That means another year locked up. F*cking great . Should be able to buy your way to one privately eventually but the idea that there'll be a Health card like with YF opening up travel again is most unlikely.

It will trickle down to everyone eventually, abit like getting tested for it, time scale who knows. I just think one or more companies will start charging a fortune for said vaccine, just like I heard one company did for a test and you get the result back pretty quick.

But is that right to be able to buy it, I'm not so sure

I haven't left my home county since last Xmas and it's cost me an absolute fortune in lost earnings. So from my perspective yes, it's right !!! I can't hack another 12 months in this sh*tty country that's for sure ! ... and I sure as heck don't need some ruddy public health official arbitrarily deciding an age line (that I am pretty near) below which I cannot have a vaccine even if I want to pay. I appreciate they are not planning on making it available for free on the NHS, fine, but to deliberately set out not to allow vaccine stocks into the country for the rest of us if we want them, given all the factors this is causing people, is an absolute disgrace. Controlling f*ckers. At this rate we'll all end up travelling to Switzerland to get it just like you have to go there if you want to die. Nanny State shyte all of it. Rant over.
