for anyone thinking of booking a winter break to the Canaries there will be mandatory covid tests on arrival at the hotel, hotel receptions will be set up for testing as they deemed it wasn't the right move testing at the airport.. bit of a bummer as we were getting behind the idea of a winter break but not risking going into a two week isolation abroad just not worth the risk

we then thought a naughty trip to Berlin could be on the cards but seen you have to isolate on arrival for 2 weeks now too, seriously this year is becoming all the more difficult

Where do you get that from, there is a debate in Lanzarote about the potential introduction of a negative covid test but this is far from settled and no definitive date? FCO advice for anyone going to the canaries is that you only have to give contact details and have a temp check.

Interesting, as the canaries have 2x the population of the Balearics. Both a a set of island chains, and also opened for tourism during the summer. It would be very enlightening to understand the difference and reasons behind the variances.

Dustier drier air and very stable temperatures maybe? Also population is quite spread out on a lot of the islands outside of the big resorts. Its interesting because Tenerife was one of the earliest places of media attnetion during the crisis with that hotel locked down with the Italian tourist suspected of bringing it across.

I understand the testing bit doesn't excite you, but after this summer you should also understand testing is currently the only way for a tourist destination to exist in a safe way.

I might be wrong with what I say now, but I think the vast majority of european summer holiday destinations will implement a testing strategy for 2021. I doubt enough people will be vaccinated by may next year and so I feel we have to get comfy with the fact that testing will be a compulsory part of any travel plans throughout next year. I'm hoping 2022 will be a more normal year again then
ive got a feeling you may be right, I also have a feeling it will put many people off.. I for one got quarantined on return from Croatia In the summer and my bosses weren't pleased Im sure a lot will be unwilling to take the risk.. unless tests before departure are readily available so you can travel without worry but atm that's not the case

some sort of home testing kits would be ideal  dream world

Another low blow from Tory Government. Removing the zero rate of VAT on PPE is going to have a huge impact on the care sector and for people that have already massively financially impacted by the pandemic
Could be a massive increase on the £600-800 a week they already pay ?

This will only work if they test locals too. Moving testing from airports to hotels suggests they will only test tourists, which isn't enough.

The main cause of the second wave in Spain was the spread in the Spanish community, not evil tourists bringing the virus from abroad. Non-touristy Spanish regions are hit more by the virus than touristy islands and the Mediterranean coast.

We will all be better staying at home supporting family, friends businesses and events that are going to need all the support they get.. thinking of holidaying with partners and family abroad is just crazy. Go on your own OK. But going with family or a group, One tests positive, everyone stuck in some quarantine Hotel.. LoL you'll be signing divorce papers by day 3...

with the risk of quarantine I have to agree! it would be great if testing was done on the travellers soil rather than away.. I know that's never going to happen but if taking over a negative result meant saving the travel industry (which is mammoth) and giving piece of mind to holiday makers.. id rather have paid for a holiday I cant get on than be stuck on one I cant get back from

I do agree, but Ibiza is still a dilemma for me next year, it is my most visited destination, the place id move to if I won the lottery etc and I feel without my annual spend the place wont be the same in 2022 when we hope normality returns.

Suppose we cant win either way, holiday at home and resorts we lovd abroad suffer and vice-versa.

All holiday resorts will do all they can to get tourists back..Ibiza will be no different, if I was the mayor is say just get them on the plane asap and out of here.. deal with it at home...?

of course. another thing they (hopefully) have learnt after this summer.

Balearic strategy was you have to provide a negative COVID test 48 hours before your flight so testing will be done in your home country and on departure from spain

Still a hassle (and uncertainty) I can do without. I can give Ibiza a miss now until late Spring and see what the situation is then. being covid-positive before you set out is one thing, but being forund +ve over there meaning you have to sit in a hotel room for 2 weeks...no thanks.

Yes I know what you mean... Will be a pain in the arse

Holidaying is not going to be like before for a long while... A lot to think about insurance to cover COVID, testing etc, maybe quaratining still if not lifted, everyone will have to weigh up the options before they go abroad

Holidaying in home countries might be a viable option for 2021

Ive had holidays in Norfolk and North Wales this year, places ive never been to before and we struck lucky with the weather, saw some great scenery and had a good time.

But the weather is always a gamble with UK holidays and there just isnt that carefree vibe you get even in mainland Spain never mind Ibiza. Thinking of Devon and Scotland next year for more of the UK tour.

The risk of getting infected and sick with it in Ibiza or anywhere abroad really is not appealing to me. Until a vaccine or cure turn up we will be staying in the UK sadly.
