Just read in one of the papers that the UK government might open up an air corridor to New York. That's an individual part of a larger country, so it would stink like hell if they did that but didn't open up Ibiza. One rule for them....
The current Ibiza numbers are not good at all. There are fewer new cases than on Mallorca, but the population is 10x smaller than on Mallorca too.

With a population of just 140.000, Ibiza would need to have less than 10 new cases per day in order to e. g. meet the German threshold for safe regions (50 new cases per 100.000 population per week). Actual numbers for Ibiza seem to be more like 40 new cases per day, so as much as I hate to say it, the travel warning for Ibiza is currently justified :(

yeah, 500 odd new cases today on balearics, 53 of them here on ibiza/formentera. 552 active cases currently.

My trip cancelled today! First time for years I’ve not been ?!

was going to make the best of it and enjoy a break with beaches, good food and great friends this year.

I can honestly say I don’t think I’ll be back until things are back to normal and the clubs open.

we have wanted to try to Portugal where we got married for a fewyears now but the pull of ibiza always seems to win! I think that will be our next trip. There are places we want to go that are half the price of ibiza but we always sack it off because there is 1 thing or another we want to do in ibiza. Until that returns we will do some exploring of Europe on the rare occasions we manage to blag the parents of a few child free days!!

That's it in a nutshell, there's absolutely no point in looking and booking and then all the uncertainty as to whether we will be able to go or not. Any chance of enjoying a holiday will be tempered by the months of worry and uncertainty.

I'm lucky in that being retired I can go as soon as we get government approval, last-minute and some. In winter that could be the south of Spain, Algarve or Gibraltar, but I feel really sorry for those of you slogging your guts out and then not knowing whether there's an Ibiza holiday at the end. It's pathetic, it really is.

Anyone seen the muppets marching yesterday in uk saying covid a conspiracy & masks a ploy to control us. Okay Sandra, guess you don't wear a seat belt, drink and drive and cross the road without looking too?‍♂️

We have the above rules for the good of society, cause most people unfortunately don't have enough common sense to look after themselves, let alone others.

And don't get me started on the bullshit going around docs been paid/forced to report deaths as covid.

Guess some people find reality hard.

/rant over ?

you would be surprised how many people here on the island are prone to that BS.

Yeah and society in general. It makes me wonder if our current civilisation has a future, or like the roman empire, will collapse and take thousand years to recover.

(Mentioned it before but the book "Rubicon" about the fall of the Roman empire is an enlightening read. About how politicians acted when knew everything going to shit, mislead the masses, and so on. It's like current world leaders are using it as a playbook)

Ps: while civilisation recovered before, this time we'd probs be stuck in some kind of bronze age (trash heap age?), as you need high technology to mine the resources required for civilisation. If we fall back, we'd not have the functioning tech to pull ourselves back up to this level.?‍♂️

Well this is a cheerful Sunday ?

Almost like want special covid parties for all these people. In one big room, no masks and guaranteed bunch of people with covid walking around coughing and talking loudly in everyone's face.

Or at least get them to talk to health workers and those who've lost family?‍♂️

I blame the writers who ruined GoT season 8?

What about those who lost family and friends to eating shit, smoking, drinking taking drugs does talking to those people stop Kebabs, fags, beers and a cheeky half or two..? If the posters and adds tomorrow said it's all gone away... would we even really know or care...

I hear what you are saying and no it doesn't, but its then harder to deny death from those things exist. (I don't see fat people, therefore fat people and dying from it doesn't exist or it's made up by governments to stop us eating mcds?)

As for caring, guess its perspective. Do we care polio has effectively been eradicated, probably not. Go back not to long ago and I'm sure will be a lot of people (in western world) glad they don't have to worry about been randomly paralyzed. (Similar for TB).

Shallow Hal meets the sixth sense... We've all been there mate...?
Damn those beer goggles ?

The crux of the problem is if it was blood borne disease like HIV, then other peoples actions don't affect me. It's my and mine alone choices that decide on my risk exposure.

Covid is air and fomite transmission so other peoples actions directly affects my risk exposure.

Bit like saying fat people eating mcds makes people with a radius fat too... which would be bad for me as I'm 200 metres from a mcds ?

Arrived in Athens late last night and don't know if the islands are the same but speaking for the capital they are at it with full force, we got put into a que to be tested straight off the flight pretty much and although it was a bit of a joke (line just as big as the ones not having to who went straight to boarder control for passport checks) you can tell they are trying to do their best to keep their travel going.. on one hand it seemed that way but cramming people into a small make shift testing centre, no real line edict or fresh air kind of defys the whole point ? but they seem alot more on the ball than other countries al give them that.. fingers crossed im negative ? dont fancy being isolated here for two weeks at all

How were they testing people?

Ibiza Airport was just a visual test (!), nothing at Faro Airport and of course, nothing at Heathrow. Although BA were checking people’s temperatures at check in at Heathrow.

Swab from back of the throat to be sent off, yeah there was temp checks also ..maybe they only actually send off tests when the person is also over a certain temp? Unsure if any merit in that but they told the family a few ahead of us to stay in hotel or house untill results came back and they tested all of them when it came to us they only swabbed me and didn't do any form of test on the Mrs.. plus they just told us ok.. not to isolate till results or anything
