Coolest moment with a DJ?

Personally I think that dj's are just regular people who play other people's records and they shouldn't be regarded as anything else than entertainers. Hate this superstar-ego-dj-crap :?

Of course it's been sort of cool being introduced to Carl Cox or chatting to Marshall Jefferson, but my favorite story is about Jori Hulkkonen (a Finnish dj).
When I was living in Amsterdam, I saw a flyer for a party sponsored by Diesel where Mr Hulkkonen was going to play. Now I didn't fancy buying any tickets for such a snob party  so I emailed him asking for a guestlist entry. He mailed back, really friendly, even gave his gsm number in case there would be any hassle at the door.

I went to the party, at the door I just said that Jori Hulkkonen has invited me, they let me in no problem (not even scrolling up and down the guestlist like they normally do  ). I spoke to Jori and told him that everybody thought it was a bit odd that he put me on the guestlist only because I was from Finland. He told me that the party organizers had said the same, like "what, you are putting this girl on the guestlist and you don't even know her??". The connection was just that we were both from Finland :D

About 1,5 yrs later I had moved back to Finland and saw him play at a party here. Talked to him and he still remembered me. Really nice, down to earth guy. :D

I went to a party last week and saw Sasha, he tapped me on the shoulder and said, "Hi Robder" so I fainted.

Oh my goodness!

Am I the only person finding this thread funny???

Admittedly I come over all swoony when Smokin Jo walks into a room but for goodness sake, these people are famous for playing records!

It's ricidoodalous!

...actually I made the above story about king-of-dirge-15-min-break-down-Sasha* up. (* insert superstar dj name here)
However, I'd like to pay my respects as he really deserves the triple figure pay cheque he runs away with after each gig.

Pep, Robder - Keep in mind that quite a few DJs are also famous for making their own music and producing records  ;)

Exactomundo 8)

The Chemical Brothers are largely responsible for getting me into electronic music when I was living in Sydney, so I feel no shame in the fact I worship the ground that they walk on :P

Good point!
I must travel to Ibiza armed with a 12" (hard on) and pack of marker pens!
Wouldn't want to miss out on an autograph opportunity after all.

Roger Sanchez is my guy. I was into electronic music since the 80s but I was so blown away by Release Yourself at El Divino in 2001, and that's about when I started buying up house compliations. The song Another Chance is still my alltime favorite house tune (So simple yet super-melodic and somehow emotionally moving). Video makes me cry.

Sure, but before they actually do something for the world peace or save some starving kids, I see them as regular homo sapiens.

Being a lady from Finland as you are, I seem to be of the same disposition, as the following true stories witness:

Sunday, August 28, 2005. Be Yourself @ Pacha. Since our last visit to Ibiza, my boyfriend and I had got ourselves a new flat. I was looking at the floor in Pacha, rambling on in true mortgage payer style "See honey, Pacha's got the exact same floor tiles as our kitchen, I'm never gonna refurbish out kitchen floor now etc." While at the same time my boyfriend was already shaking hands with Danny Tenaglia, exchanging a few words :D I was lost for words so didn't even approach him, but what a blinding set he played. We left at 6.30 but I was left wondering til how late he played.

Tuesday, August 30. Carl Cox @Space. Bf and I were sat on a low table next to the door that goes to the dj booth in the old terrace, not to stalk anyone but because there wasn't anywhere else to sit. Danny walks to the door, apparently to give Victor Calderone a white label, but stops to say hello to my bf. He introduces me to Danny as his gf, but I'm sort of slouched on the seat so Danny actually has to wave his hand and say "Hellooo" before I notice who he is.

And I got to ask him what time he stopped playing on Sunday (7.30). There's nothing like first-hand information. (Plus I still swoon in a platonic way just thinking about it)

I work out at David Barton Gym on 23rd Street in Manhattan. The place is like a nightclub and the music is always pumping. Think of a gym that's like a night at La Troya (we work out with Amanda Lepore three times a week there).

Anyway, on Tuesdays and Thursdays the gym features a different local DJ for our fun and enjoyment; it really gives the place a great atmosphere and makes working out there a joy. I walk in one Tuesday a few months ago and guess who the DJ is for that night? JUNIOR! The whole place was in a tizzy and practically the whole gym was on the second level where he was DJ'g. He had on a white wife beater and tight G Star jeans (I found out about the brand after my girlfriend at the time begged me to ask him). THE MAN IS RIPPED.

After the crowds subsided, we could finally get down to some exercise and he got down to some great DJ'g. The music was so loud and they pumped it throughout the 3 story gym, but wherever you were you knew there was a party going on downstairs. I had to do my quads that day, and the quad machine was right near Junior's set up (the DJs aren't in booths, they're on the workout floor with everyone). As I'm doing my exercises he starts dancing around and looks right at me with a funny look on his face. I almost died! He was so friendly and I got to chat with him for a few minutes. I complimented him for still using vinyl. He was really sweet.

Definitely my favorite night at the gym, and I love every night I'm there!

Me & Junior - June 2005. I don't care about clothes but my hair looks fierce!!

At Creamfields a few years ago I brought my mate Darren who isn't particularly knowledgeable about the electronic music scene (but is a good sport and will happily accompany me along to such things).

We spent some time in the VIP area and came across Paul Oakenfold... whom my rather drunk mate decided to introduce himself to.. addressing him as "Pete Oakenshaw". Oakie wasn't too impressed to put it mildly but it certainly was one of the highlights of the festival for me!!

I was approached by Sasha during an afterhours party and he asked me "have you seen my shoes?". I looked down and realized Sasha was shoeless at this moment in time. I told him I'd keep an eye out for them...

Many hours later I saw Lee Burridge crawl out from underneath the DJ booth (He was under there because he was 8O and just wanted to chill). I asked him if he had seen Sasha's shoes and he just laughed...

I spoke with Burridge about a year after this party and he says that party was one of the craziest/best times he's ever had. I'll never forget some of the things I saw on that day...actually I have forgot. There's about a good 4-5 hour gap where my wife and I both have no recollection of what happened. Oops... Crazy times indeed...

This reminds of the time I lost my shoes at a party in Ibiza the first year I went. Tried to blank that out.

Me to Jon - So if Sara's down in Brighton who's looking after Snoop??

For those of you that don't know, Snoop is Sara Cox's dog. What kind of question is that to ask your fave DJ  8O

Jon must have just thought OMG who is this crazed stalker, she even knows what my dog is called

Jon to me - Errr the dog sitter is looking after him, I'm hoping she's took him for a long walk cos he'd better not be laid on my bed when I get in

Well we make a bit more chit chat and I think it's best for me to make an exit before I completely embarrass myself and show myself for the true Carter stalker I am

You'll all dj slag whores!!!!!!

;) xxx
