Coolest moment with a DJ?

Sorry this is more of a music topic, but I am in the mood to hear fab stories and the music forum gets less play than this one does.

So whats the most radical moment you have had with a DJ? Like, when you made contact/felt like it was personal, met your fave DJ, etc. Anything goes.

Coolest is a Roger Sanchez story... last time I saw him I made a shirt... it was a black wife beater with the word "S-MAN" in big block letters (of course no one in the stupid, musically uneducated San Diego crowd knew what it meant haha) with rhinestones. He saw it, and we made eye contact while I was right in the front. He held his finger up to me like "wait one second." He crouched behind the decks, and when he came up, he was holding a full glass of champagne. He held it high and tipped it towards me... and mouthed the words "To you." I almost passed out/soiled myself. I would have paid a million dollars if someone snapped a photo of that moment.

Second was when I met Paul Oakenfold in Las Vegas... I mean, living legend as far as I'm concerned

Third, meeting Dave Seaman at El Divino, he took lots of pics with us and then walked all the way across the club WITH ME to find a pen so he could sign his autograph. Classy.

HAPPY FRIDAY... go!

None here!

But yours sound like a Kodak moment ;)

I was in a club in São Paulo last month in a party where Peter Rauhofer (legendary) was playing a 5 hours set. I met a friend of mine who was wearing a kind of VIP area wristband. I told him "wow, VIP or what? I want one too (kidding)..." He put his hand in his pocket and gave me the other wristband he had and said "come with me".

He took me to the backstage where Peter Rauhofer was playing and all the drinks were free. He then said "let me introduce you to a friend of mine who wants to meet you, Junior."

- Junior, this is Conrado.
- Conrado, this is Junior Vasquez.

I just stayed there looking at the crowd from the stage, dancing with Junior Vasquez to the Peter Rauhofer set. Unbelievable.

did he give you any champaigne, or just gesticulate as if to give you some?

He held his glass up towards me and looked me dead in the eye, then cheersed to me in the air. I was paralyzed for a second, then I held my drink up, and we had a cheers in the air simultaneously. It made me feel like an utter princess for him to single me out like that with the crowd behind me going apeshit.

Conrado, AWESOME story. Junior...wow. Keep it coming guys.

Seb Fontaine was in town for a show he did at Vinyl.

Later on, at an after hour party that me and some friends were revolving DJ, Seb walks downstairs and asked me if I knew where I could get some beans. I told that I had no idea, but asked if he wanted spin. He said no.

He was really cool though.

I forgot about this one. Timo Maas was in town to do a set at a club that a friend of mine was promoting. Before the show, we were hanging in the VIP room and he invited us to have a drink with him before his set. We took pictures and he signed autographs. He was a real cool, down to earth guy, and rocked that club till 2:15 in morning (club supposed to close at 1:30).

I have another funny story, only that it isn't with a DJ.

Beginning of January I was at a restaurant in Ipanema (Rio) with some recently met friends waiting for a table. It was with a group of around 10 people and the only two I met were this Spanish millionaire guy who has a penthouse in Ipanema to spend the European winter here and a Brazilian friend who works for him.

The table was ready and I sat randomly in front of this American sir (looking around 60-70 years old, but in very good shape) who I had never seen before. He was introduced to me as Calvin and he was spending his Winter here. I then asked my Spanish friend who was that guy. He said "that's Calvin Klein!", after I had spent 15 minutes trying to convience him to change his phone company in Brazil for a cheaper one.

BTW, I think he'll be in Ibiza by the end of July.

1. At the legendary Tunnel is glasgow, theres a wee area behind the dj box - walking thru that Steve Lawler stood there - spent a few minutes trying to persuade him to do a residency there. Of course he didn't but a few months later he started a monthly Colours residency at the arches

2. Space, Ibiza, Zabiela has just finished a cracking set. Sashas gone on and after about 3 tunes the power failed. Standing near the dj box with total silence from there Sasha flies towards me - I asked him "Whats happening"

reply - "Its all f***ed!!!!!"

less than an hour - power back on tho' Sasha handed the night over the Zabiela for most of it

I've actually had quite a few... drinking with Sasha at my house until 6AM, dinner with Armin at Coastline... but I think the best moment was last year at Judgement Sundays when Corsten and Jules were playing... they called my brother and I into the DJ booth and plowed us with champagne. And then when I said"i'm gonna get outta here and get out of your way", they were both like "don't you go anywhere" and then bought me more vodka redbull hahaha!!! I'm a fortunate boy.

HAPPY FRIDAY... go!

I have many, Stonebridge is a good freind of mine now and we love spending time with him, we have very interesting interlectual conversations and i feel very grown up

Last year @ Homelands Mr Sanchez came in the backstage tent @ Homelands and came and sat with me & Joey, he was telling us about the trouble he'd had trying to get in and stuff about his gf and his dog and then ate a packet of crisps. I think i may have been going a bit mental during his set because he kept looking to the side where i as dancing and laughing at me

Space Closing 2003.

Was asked if I had met "Danny". I thought he must be some guy who worked for DJ Magazine, one of the reporters or something.
Bloke gets tapped on the shoulder, turns around.
Was Danny Tenaglia.
I was a little speechless.

I was approached by Sasha during an afterhours party and he asked me "have you seen my shoes?". I looked down and realized Sasha was shoeless at this moment in time. I told him I'd keep an eye out for them...

Many hours later I saw Lee Burridge crawl out from underneath the DJ booth (He was under there because he was 8O and just wanted to chill). I asked him if he had seen Sasha's shoes and he just laughed...

I spoke with Burridge about a year after this party and he says that party was one of the craziest/best times he's ever had. I'll never forget some of the things I saw on that day...actually I have forgot. There's about a good 4-5 hour gap where my wife and I both have no recollection of what happened. Oops... Crazy times indeed...

When I was at BoraBora in '03, I met Gee when I was busy chatting with one of the t-shirt girls. He was fiddling around with his ear plugs, and so I started having a conversation with him about ear protectors. I mentioned to him that when he is in the US he should get a pair casted for his ear. He can do that at any gun show for 30-40 bucks. Had I known he had quite a few dineros to spend I would have recommended electronic in-the-ear protectors  .

The funny thing is that all the while I did not even know who the heck he was. Later on I thought it was kinda cool having a conversation with a local super-star without even knowing them. One tends to treat them like normal folks rather than someone special. I think they appreciate that :? .

This story isn't too crazy but nonetheless, a good experience.

About 2 years ago me and a friend drove to a city (Calgary) about 3 hours south of where we live to see Tall Paul and Jon O'bir for a Godskitchen night. Was totally last minute. I was reading some message boards and discovered they were spinning in Calgary that night. Anyway, drove down and went to the club. Almost didn't get let in because of my white sneaks. The night wasn't that well organized, they had Tall Paul and Jon O'bir on right after a regular ladies night (top forty, now I mean Canadian top forty  ). Needless to say, the crowd was terrible. I was watching Jon spin when this girl comes up just hammered and says "Are you gonna play anything else, like some hip hop?". I couldn't believe it. Jon said something of the sort "no honey, I'm probably gonna keep playing this stuff". I was pretty embarassed. I went up to Jon after she left, and apologized and explained the ladies night thing and that it's not normally like this. He shrugged it off and laughed.

After Jon's set, which was awesome, Tall Paul came on. Would ya believe, the piping system upstairs was plugged and "water" began dripping from the roof above the DJ booth! I've got pictures of people holding glasses and tubs to keep the water from hitting the turntables (while Paul's in the background trying to mix  ).

Jon called me over to the DJ booth. We bs'ed about music, ibiza and global gathering. Once Jon found out I had gone to global gathering he called Neil Moffit over and we all had some drinks and a good laugh. Neil gave me his card and said if I go next year to GG to get a hold of him. I didn't even really know who Neil was (CEO of Gods). All three of them were really good guys. Down to earth. Had some good laughs and got some good pics.

Still chat with Jon and Neil every once in awhile. Last month I had some friends go to Ice in Las Vegas for a stag and Neil treated them really good. They said they had an unbelievable time. Now, I've just got to get to GG or Ice myself-haha.

Sorry about the length, but I had to detail the humour in the story.

Not really about me, but when we were in Pacha, Ibiza, me and Paul managed to find a not so busy spot by the dj bit, I was dancing cos Soul Heaven came on, Paul as always was standing to one side, and Frankie Knuckles went up to him and shook his hand, little bit of a nod, and a pat on the arm, I went running up to Paul and said "do you know who that is" Paul said "No" he wouldnt believe me when I told him who it was 8)

Think mine has to be just having my pic taken with Roger Sanchez after he played at Mambo, I caught him just as he was leaving, and he posed for a pic, what a lovely man :D

Funny that Stu, at the closing in 03 I ended up getting mullered with the people from Rapture tv and blagged my way upstairs (phillips had rented it for a vip/mobile phone marketing thingy) with them. Next minute DT was sat with us. I was a bit taken a back (and mullered) to have a proper converstion with him. All i can remember saying was "..I think your funkin great" about 3/4 times.

ps. I Think i saw you play, was it the car park mid afternoon ??
