Cocoon @ PACHA discussion

not the case anymore, and since a few years already.

it‘s true this used to be the case for a long period and until about 5 years ago, but the the likes of music on, ants and lately elrow, combined with the silly price level ibiza is currently at, people come for long weekends nowadays. this has been confirmed by clubs, hotels etc. typically thu-sun/mon or fri-mon/tue.

it‘s one of the issues cocoon are facing - but they aren‘t alone with that.

I've noticed this trend, especially more so this year. On the solo Ibiza group, people's dates seem to be more 2-5 days instead of the 7 or 14. (Although there are still people doing 1 or 2 weeks of course). Myself, I'm not even going this year:eek:

Well, well, well... let me firstly say that any concerns about Peggy Gou not being a suitable "Cocoon guest "were waaaaaaaay off the mark.
She hit a home run last night. Furthermore, she played harder than Beyer did! And harder than Ilario Alicante did!
A few tracks below to give people an idea:
Not only that, but she brought a crowd! There was 300 people on the dancefloor by 01:00. Not even the early Cocoons at Pacha were that busy that early.
Those of you who attended Koze earlier in the month - to give you some context, it was probably twice as busy last night. Easily my favourite guest so far this season along with Gerd.
Lots of people were obviously there to see her, as it thinned out a little after she finished.
One note: as an earlier poster had mentioned, the upstairs terrace was again closed. Not sure whether they didn't expect it to be that busy? At first I was disappointed, as it's always a cool spot to chill out. But the more I thought about it, I totally understand their reasoning. Back when I was working in clubs, my venue had the luxury of being in a position where we had a sizeable area to turn into a smoking area when the UK ban came in.
We got approval from licensing for it to hold 300 people.
Some Friday nights - which were notoriously tough during the financial crisis - we would have 500 through the door. Double what any other club in the town would have, but we always heard the same complains "It's dead" "Too quiet" "No atmosphere on the dancefloor". Though we had decent(ish) numbers, half of them would out on the smoking area having a fag and a chit-chat. It actually made us rope off the majority of it in the end, making it a tiny space, so people just went out for their fag and then came immediately back inside. Some times you just need to encourage people to get on the dancefloor. Perception is an important thing.
So the entrance foyer was busy, but not really any more than I have seen on previous visits.
Cocoon last night was a hit. Hopefully this could be the start of a September renaissance now the demographic on the island is changing.

Great review @white_isle_calling - three absolute belters those tracks!

I did have a feeling that Peggy would be superb last night and I’m glad to hear she delivered. Fingers crossed the Cocoon numbers are solid throughout September - I know it’s not the flavour of the month like Solomun or Music On, but it really is the best party for music lovers and proper Ibiza heads!

Sorry, forgot to mention: what made last night even better is that Peggy played music that nobody else is playing - either at Cocoon or on the island elsewhere. It wasn't necessarily all upfront, but it sounded fresh. In fact the least inspired track she played was her Shakedown remix. Otherwise, it was all out of the top drawer.

For those that follow, we have updated our Spotify playlist - there's some real beauties added from last night, aside from the above.

Sounds like Cocoon need to get her locked in for multiple dates in 2019!

Good to read. Could start to restore my faith in Ibiza and its music scene. Must admit what I’ve heard in the last two years has led to me feeling somewhat jaundice about it.

Your Spotify playlists are outstanding.

Peggy was fantastic at Lost Village last weekend. Tee’d it up perfectly for a certain Mr Janson.

She was banging it out.

I know it's probably mentioned if I had time to do a search, but will cocoon be doing their daytime closing thing on Thursday 4th Oct? At bumussa?

Venue unconfirmed at this stage but I would be very surprised if there wasn’t some daytime action of some description!
