Cocoon @ PACHA discussion

My friend was at cocoon last weds 22nd aug. He said place was really quiet with much of the club including the upstairs terrace closed off. Any reasons why?

It was quiet last Friday 17th when I was there but I had that down to dc10 being open on the Friday.

To be brutally honest on both of my visits so far (6th June and 1st August) Pacha has definitely been on the quieter side of things, although the upstairs was open on both occasions.

I've done to death on here about how much I enjoyed both Cocoons this season and I personally don't mind having more room to move on the dancefloor and feel like the atmosphere more than makes up for less people - I just fear what the clubs view may be and how busy is in comparison to other events there that I've never attended as Solomun is obviously rammed to the rafters week in week out (Flower Power, Tuesdays on Mars, FMIF, Labyrinth, Pure Pacha).

I'm really surprised to hear that Cocoon in August of all things is not totally filled. At this point I would guess that has to simply be chalked up to the fact it's just a quieter season overall in Ibiza? Or was the choice of moving to Wednesday smack in the middle of the week maybe not the best one? I had that thought just as comparing Ibiza to Miami (just for travel distance) for those of us in the states, generally it's great and easy to go for a long weekend (Fri - Mon, Sat -Tues, etc) and Wednesday does not fit in on either side of that kind of visit... separate discussion i suppose but does anyone know if Paradise is still rammed week in and week out?

Historically Ibiza has always been weakest on Fri + Sat nights. Opposite of anywhere

I'd say it's more to do with the island 8n general being quiter. Really glad they switched to pacha as it would just have been really empty looking in amnesia. Like the reports from pyramid are

I'm sure pacha will give them a another crack at it next year.

Maybe conversation for another thread but I wonder if that remains true? It seems like Saturdays have caught some steam over last few years and Sundays obviously always have been a big party day.

I am not a Cocoon fan, even if I recognize it's a very good night for techno lovers (surely the best techno night in ibiza), which I am not.
I have always been a Pacha fan, as a progressive house lover I have spent a lot of lovely nights there, back in the days, Renaissance, Yoshitoshi, Satoshi Tommie, etc...
I was at Pacha for Cocoon this year, and my feeling is still the same, Pacha is not made for techno, this place deserve more soulful sound.
I think Cocoon has lost its house, and Pacha is not the new one I believe... Just a step...

It's no secret that Cocoon has been quiet this summer, with the exception of the opening few weeks. They don't seem to be bringing in any more number than Maceo did. Assuming both parties sign up for a 2 year contract, then imagine next year will be the last year for a full season of cocoon. All good things come to an end.

I didn’t go to Cocoon this year, but I sort of agree. Can’t picture that party in there. It’s also tough being sandwiched between Resistance and Afterlife. Add on top of that it’s a new night and new club....not easy to pack out the place.

For me Cocoon is made for cathedrals like Amnesia or Privilege
Pacha isn't a cathedral.
Pacha is our house. You feel like home is this temple.
I am sure all of you who have been @ Pacha off season know what I mean.

I really appreciate your honest opinion and I also kind of agree. I've never been to pacha in over 10 years of going to Ibiza as I never imagined it being great for techno which is my thing. I also was at cocoon closing last year and felt it was the end of an era....
It's not just pacha and cocoon but the shift in trends.
Ibiza is almost finished for the things it did right and attracted people wanting that experience.
Cocoon will always be full of good club guys/girls that know the scene but it's also changed to trends and bull shit crowds ramming nights with crap music but it makes big money. Kind of links to the stuff wrong with Ibiza and the real side we all got addicted to etc.

not the case anymore, and since a few years already.

it‘s true this used to be the case for a long period and until about 5 years ago, but the the likes of music on, ants and lately elrow, combined with the silly price level ibiza is currently at, people come for long weekends nowadays. this has been confirmed by clubs, hotels etc. typically thu-sun/mon or fri-mon/tue.

it‘s one of the issues cocoon are facing - but they aren‘t alone with that.
