Cocoon @ PACHA discussion

What a nice night. Nice running into Stivi finally and meeting Woodsy. Koze started off slow but then as soon as the cocoon dancers got on stage he brought it up a notch. Cassy played some groove deep house music with hints of house, was really surprised by her, I liked what she played. Sven was playing harder but it was good. Like proper techno.

The B2B didn't go without its technical flaws but thr set was great, they really had a nice flow. The crowd was good, I felt like ppl were there for the music, seemed like a clued up crowd. And yes Koze signed the knock knock album cover!

Unbelievably to myself, I missed Cocoon the entire length of July, so it was good to finally be back on Wednesday. Arrived at 01:45 having previously been at Cova Santa for Storytellers.
First time I have caught Koze and I thought he was great. Some of the music he played, a few curveballs included:

Naturally he played Pick Up - track of the summer after all.

Sven then played to his usual high standard. My only complaint would be that, having missed 4 weeks, his big tracks are still the same ones as the start of the season: ANNA - Hidden Beauties, Gregor Tresher - Substance, Fabrice Lig - Dark Commodore, Bart Skils - Bells of the Revolution etc.

That's not to say he's playing the same set in the same order, there are newer tracks as well don't get me wrong. Just nothing that blew me away as a peak time stomper. Surprised not to clock any of the tracks off the recent Cocoon various artist compilation. These were my favourites from his set:

He only played solo for 2 hours - which relatively speaking, is a short set for Papa. Next week when we get the full proper uninterrupted all night long, I expect we'll get the full spectrum from twinkly electronica, stomping techno, house classics and maybe some flirtings with trance.

Cassy also played great in Room 2. It reminded me of the fantastic Carl Craig throwback set from earlier in the season. Funky, groovy and predominantly house. Wasn't as busy as on that occasion.

Actually, Cocoon in general was quieter than I was expecting for this time of the season. That said, the energy on the dance floor is second to none and - unlike other parties - the crowd sticks around to the death instead of thinning out.

His real name is Stefan Kozalla. I would say it is pronounced Ko – ze (like the German word Kotze which means in English barf....)

Sorry for going off at a tangent, but just to add those "Lo-Fi" producers have played their legion of bedroom geek followers for absolute fools. Stealing a living. There's a reason why some things are underground: because they're shit.

There was a late 90's d+b MC called.......MC MC !

as for the lo-fi comments, a lot of it is actually really nice music, sienfeld on beats in space was really good, ross from friends (i know) does a lot of really good stuff live and dj, horses for course isn't again though.

Stupidest dj name (apart from Scotch Egg) has to go to ''DJ Bus Replacement Service'' - seriously....wtf??? i listened to one of her mixes a while back and i guarantee she is taking people for a fool, not even explainable.

I'd agree, to an extent. Check out DJ Seinfeld's DJ Kicks though, pretty exceptional in my view.

PS - Koze usually refers to himself as Kosi (as in tea cosy)
