Cocoon @ PACHA discussion

Carl Craig walked on water (see previous posts I've put up on this) but I think he's had to (or felt obliged to) dilute though which is a real shame. A lot of disillusioned fans out there - I see it on facebook all the time.

it's bizarre constraining DJs to one genre as well - this seems to be a new recent trend. Everyone I know freely alternates between house and disco (and beyond!) depending on their mood and the party. Most of the time you don't know/care what genre as long as it makes you dance, so it is marketing bullshit to pigeon-hole people on flyers.

He's never been a great mixer but is a good selector dj wise. He's a far far better producer. Even at the height of his techno mastery he used to drop clangers left right and centre and was one of the first to switch to Traktor etc when that came out... I know its more about selection than mixing but still but not everyone understands that unfortunately and you still get idiots slagging jeff Mills off who don't fully understand what he's actually doing.

last time i saw him in Paris last year, his techno set was , for a detroit night, Moodyman didnt deceive  it lack Derrick May :) that night as he used to b on Detroit night in Paris
i can't see him playing disco in a Techno night  unless written on the flyer

I've still not forgiven moodymann (who doesn't look as moody as he should) for playing friggin white stripes and nirvana and ruining my vibe. Plus he talks way too much. Leave the mic at home!

And anyone who has used a sample of his voice in a record can do one :)

Bit late on this one, but just another post to say Gerd was phenomenal on Wednesday. A really amazing "warm-up".
When I arrived at 00:30 there was - understandably at that time - about 20 ppl rattling around in the main room. By 1am it was already picking up, and by 01:30 the night was in full swing and Herr Janson did not disappoint. Great selections, long transitions and not afraid to go off piste.

I was only there to see him really as I'm Sven'ed out. But I'm really pleased I went.

I love moodymann but he is known to take the piss. I find with a lot of the Detroit guys, I'd actually rather hear other DJs playing their records than the producers themselves. "Legends" command fees which the small venues I prefer can never afford - meaning they'll end up on the formulaic festival circuit or megaclubs in European cities because they're the only ones who can fly them over. By the time they reach Ibiza, the dilution is so extreme they now find themselves playing Ultra Nate or whatever to tourists by which time I've lost all interest. Having said that, it really depends if DJs are allowed to be left to their own devices and have the strength of character to tell pushy clubs/promoters to f**k off. Maybe CC will play a blinder and dig deep and whisk out some cosmic gems but I wouldn't bet on it.

Moodymann as a producer was absolutely spot on. His productions were as deep and soulful as you could get. I haven't been overly impressed by much he has done in the last three or four years though. Moodymann as a DJ. A pain in the arse. Give me Theo Parrish, Rick Wilhite, Marcellus Pittman, Andres etc any day as they don't spout shite over the mic haha......and wouldn't play led friggin zeplin

Yep with you there. I expect Carl Craig with be cringey with a bit of sister sledge thrown in. Hopefully we are very wrong

Give me Theo Parrish, Rick Wilhite, Marcellus Pittman

Pittman is a great dj, always enjoy him. Would give my right bollock to see them all together as 3 chairs (with moody) for 5/6 hours on a good system.

Theo playing Secretsundaze in August by the looks of things with Floating Points...

Oooh nice one. Was planning on going to another secretsundaze soon. Was thinking of going in a couple of weeks for one of their pickle factory all nighters but will hang on for this instead maybe, unless I head to Pikes for the possibility of Harvey that is.....decisions to be made :)

Yep 3 chairs would be something else. I never see them booked to play in the UK. Perhaps once about 3 years ago in London

Anyone who was in attendance for Cocoon the other night (or at the afterhours in Thursday) I’m trying to locate a song. Annoyingly I was too pickled to video both times, but he played it around half way through the afters and 3rd from last, just before DJ Koze - Pick Up at Cocoon.

The only way I can describe it is it has Asian sounding lyrics repeated during the chorus, birds chirping and drum rolls. I know that’s incredibly vague, but just by the off chance anyone else knows. I’ve the feeling it’s a Sven weapon that nobody else will have and I’ll never find until the sound of the season comes out :(

No, not that slow. He played it before La Condamine and Pick Up. Still quite a slow, Asian sounding track. So frustrated I wasn’t able to record both times he played it. Birds chirping, Asian sounding lyrics and drum rolls is all I have annoyingly.
