Cocoon Closing 2011

Hello forum,

I'm considering cocoon closing this year...but I'm worried it's going to be spoilt by being so busy you can't move let alone dance. I hear last year was really bad for this - what are the chances this year will be the same? I don't want to spend silly money on a ticket only to find it a nightmare (really want to see Raresh though!!!)

DC10 the night before the Cocoon closing last year was ONLY JUST bearable on the busyness front for me...was totally awesome though!

Thoughts? Thanks :)

Oh, PS, what about the afterparty/ies? How easy is it to find out where they are (I know last year Sven was updating fb saying he was at Ushuaia...) and do you have to have been at the club to get in? (I know that's probably a bit of a silly question)

Thanks again :)

it's going to be rammed, simply as that.

this year, the afterparties so far are happening at punta arabi and are quite open to everyone as far as i've heard. let's see if it stays the same for the rest of the season!

It's a must.... even if packed.
After at Ushuaia was amazing. Looking forward for the Punt Arabi after.... hopefully it goes in the same direction.

i have been looking at Punt Arabi online and it looks like... well... not very good. is it just the pictures??? or does the party attract more of a better crowd?

I love Cocoon and was looking forward to the closing party, but last year I found it unbearable. It was a scrum. Couldn't move, let alone dance, had people smacking into me every second and it killed any enjoyment for me. I ended up leaving early because I couldn't take it and on my way out I couldn't even see when I was coming up to stairs because it was so heaving. Never again!

I went last year and although it was busy, i found it not as bad as July/August crowds. It was easier to move around than ive experienced in there before. Peak time for the crowd is 3-5am but after that its fine and it goes on well up to mid-day usually.

If it gets too much the balcony on the terrace is a good place to watch the mayhem from :-)

Did you have a look on youtube?
Search for cocoon afterpartie 2011...
Some nice vids of sven and marco carola... but you are right maybee it is not as good as Ushuaia last year..

I have a question for anyone who has been to Cocoon with Sven Vath playing in the main room, how is his style this year, is he going back towards a heavier techno sound?

The punta arabi things aren't really cocoon related, they're continuing with their smaller, more exclusive afters around the island.

I'm sure for the closing though, they'll do something more accessible.

Yeah Sven was bangin it out on Monday, nice to hear. Ricardo was playing straight up house, kind of like 90s Chicago style, just funky, jacking, 4/4 beats.

As long as I don't hear otherwise I will check out Punta Arabi after the Cocoon Closing. As it was the spot for the opening after, there is a good chance that it will be held there again.

But lets see what information is availibel on the 26th sep. :)

...ohoh... if it is that mysterious it will not be at the well known locations...
I will put my ear on the ground and listen what the island tells me.

Well post-Circoloco recovery, we left our hotel for oreo milkshakes and a final day on beach when right next to our hotel we noticed activity at the practically abandoned La Plage (literally 2 events in the 2 weeks we were there). Straight away we guessed Cocoon afters so grabbed our breakfast, got our wristbands and hung about in Sun listening to Sven from about 1pm. Villalobos was in the venue and behind the decks but not sure he actually played any records. We sat in between people who clearly had been straight through Circoloco and Amnesia and a family with young child also enjoying the vibe. Stayed until after 6 when we had our final play in the sea before returning to have our dinner at hotel. Sven was on when we left. We probably returned just after 9 and Sven was still banging it out. We got some. Primo spots right behind the DJ box so away from sweaty people, got some Sven pics and watched him flirt with the girls. The place was packed and definitely a most enjoyable surprise final last day of holiday!
