Personally I dont understand the Villalobos allure. I think people yearn for him a bit in the states because he is never here as there was so much hype around his Time Warp Ny set and it was fine, but nothing special. Sometimes I think people like him for the idea of just seeing how much of a train wreck he could be, almost like the people who watch Nascar and root for a crash. I've seen him a handful of times, his selection can be pretty good and his mixing is mostly terrible, nothing legendary but fine at the same time. I would much prefer Zip for example to Villalobos though personally.

Yeah he's barely in Canada as well so it's a north America thing almost. Lol @ akin to watching NASCAR for a crash. I think I know why you don't like the mixing, he suddenly brings down the volume of the track he's playing and brings up the one he's trying to mix in as a tease. It could be jarring, but it's kinda cool, or is it something else that you don't like?

I was mentioning the "help" thing earlier also because last time he came to Canada in 2014 with Sneak and he did a B2B with him and it was terrible I heard. But again, Cocoon last year was solid. Does anyone know how he was at his surprise Zoo party appearance?

When I think about it, I don't think he's on anything and I think his antics are just part of who he is? Sounds crazy but maybe true? I really like how we're all still discussing this character lolol

PMSL. The guy gets more mangled behind the decks than anyone else I can think of these days ! The 'car crashes' do seem to coincide with his being on another planet to the rest of the world..... In between his journeys to the netherworld, you can get some really great interludes. But you may as well spin a roulette wheel in terms of predicting where his head will be at in any particular moment !!!

Its mostly just because his mixing is literally all over the place. I prefer a little cleaner sound unless its someone like Solomun who is more about the selection and mood he sets. Listen to the Villalobos set from Timewarp Ny (you can find it on youtube or mixcloud i think), he is at times just so sloppy and he seemed at the least pretty sober that night so you can only imagine how bad it can get.
