Clubbing in Vauxhall

Robder and I have decided that clubbing in Vauxhall in the horrid gay clubs is poo.

Just thought I'd share... :)

Ok... I'll bite. :D

Help me out here. Which part of town is Vauxhall? (general directional guidance would suffice). And what happened to all over in that particular area that has turned you off future Vauxhall gay club visits?

Oh God where shall I start!?

I love threads like this!!!

Rrrrrrrrrrubbish music, same old sh!t djs, unfriendly arseholes on the pull, extremely tacky decor and absolutely no imagination from the promotor.

Oooh I love London's gay ghetto! So wonderfully pointless.

I hear Matinee are coming to Vauxhall soon too! 8O AND they're bringing their resident with them! Can't wait!:lol:

Actually to be honest, Roddy and I have had some wicked nights in some of the after hours dives in Vauxhall so it's not all bad.

(but it's still reeeeeeeeally rubbish compared to so called 'hetero' (sic) clubbing as it's known in those quarters :roll::roll:)

That's sad to hear.

What happened to the good old days? When I was growing up, the best clubs in town (mind you, that was Washington, DC) were gay clubs. The legendary club Tracks was always a blast to visit.

Nowadays, though, when I've been to a gay night in the States (the last time being 2 years ago in Miami) it seems like one big testosterone festival. La Troya in Ibiza is closer to how it used to be, but this year even that seemed packed with not a few poseurs.

And so, I ask you both: What's gone wrong in the scene??!

Nothing, it's been like that for years.
I don't think anything has gone wrong because people do genuinely seem to like it.
It caters for the masses so you're never going to please everyone with that formula.

I've always seen Ibiza clubbing as different anyway because it focuses more on music and that unique island spirit you don't get anywhere else in Europe.

Mainstream gay culture has fungus growing on it, it just exists with nothing to say and the same djs play the same clubs run by the same promotors...one night after another.
It's all completely sewn up and no one seems to be inspired or influenced by any of them - unlike Trade which is still 8) after all these years (AND if I might add, not part of the Vauxhall mafia).

The interesting thing is that Shoreditch is gayer than ever at the mo but none of the clubs advertise in the gay press.
Soho/Vauxhall fashion whores never set foot in them and ironic Shoreditch snobs rarely go to Soho/Vauxhall either.

There's a huge difference between them.

I do need to spend more time in Shoreditch. It seems like a lively part of town but I've only been once (for drinks with the good Mr Mark Sun) and only for a couple of hours.

What places would you recommend visiting?

Am I that much of an anorack? (don't answer that)

tbh it changes all the time so even I can't keep track.

Go to Rio man!

I was there last year with three mates and went to a couple of big gay parties that were awesome and really inclusive. I know nothing about the Gay scene in the UK but didnt seem at all commercialised out in Rio, just good vibes!

Just felt like a massive party, a bit like La Troya but less commercial with quality music.

Our landlords at the apartment we rented, Carlos and Nereu convinced us to get over our scepticism and that it would be one our best nights and cant say they were wrong

I'm sure it's amazing!...my friends are going there in Dec to do exactly that - grrr.
AND one of them is off to the closings next week. Yes you! I know you'll read this eventually.:lol:

I have to agree with you guys completely.
Im really going off clubbing in Vauxhall and I think its getting worse by the week.
You have mentioned most of the main problems already which are same promoters, same djs, same music but I would have to add to this the drug influence. Now I am no angel myself but the over-use and lack of control of it in Vauxhall has got completely out of control. This has probably increased with the increase in number of nights/after-hours/ venues etc. Its now possible to club right through from Thursday night to Tuesday morning in Vauxhall.
Later @ Fire on a Sunday (and other venues) have ambulances called constantly to them. Fire has a room at the back which they now dedicate to recovery from G overdoses. I was in there a few weeks ago, checking on a friend, and there were at least 15 bodies laying there recovering.
Correct me if Im wrong but Im sure you dont get anything like this anywhere else in the country.
You also have to think, that if everyone is this much out of it, then they are not exactly going to be the most demanding customers looking for something a little different and original week in, week out. Hence they are probably happy with what they are getting and thus the promoters see no need for interesting new ideas.

p.s. Rob, I believe Matinee are coming to Area in Vauxhall this Saturday!!

I'd rather eat my own arm.

Hello by the way! I thought you were in Ibiza. :D

Yes, Vauxhall is dirty in a really, really bad way. G is evil, whatever happened to the early 90s happy clappy generation?
It certainly wouldn't be my poison of choice, people look really ugly on it for starters.

I don't think many people at Juicy were on G, that's more an after hours thing, but the music was absolutely dreadful...and it's the first time I've felt that unfriendly, cattle market styleey atmosphere since, well, last time I went out in Vauxhall!

...I daren't say this to all my proper gayer friends tho because they'd get really defensive.

Glad you think it's rubbish too! ;)

Trust me, there were lots of people on G at Juicy on Saturday night. I know a good few of them. People are taking it all the way through the weekend now. And I agree, people do look ugly on it.
Were you there last Saturday? I didnt see you but I was there....only from midnight to 2.30am as I was tired from Ibiza. As you said, everyone just seemed so unhappy in there and dont tell my friends either as they would get defensive too!!
