Clubber murdered outside DC10 26.8.06

he was sound as well so they are not all bad.

it isn't a case of being 'sound.' the second you pay someone who is not legally registered to convey you from one place to another you negate any insurance policy you may have, as does your driver (if he'd bothered to take out one in the first place)

Its a bit like getting in some randoms car outside a club in the Uk. You wouldn't do it here, so why do it abroad?

Got a couple of these illegal taxis last week, including on leaving DC-10. Makes you think about the decisions you make when worse for wear....

ooh that's so moderate of you mr moderater!
For a start it's moderator, and what's so immoderate about the question?

First you post incorrect and libellious statements - no-one died outside Dc10 so no-one can have been murdered.

Secondly you label the arrested men murderers when they haven't even been tried yet.

And here's my regulation two smilies:

8) 8)

I posted the original article as I found it (source Scrufff newsletter) as there was no mention of this incident on Ibiza Spotlight. A tad surprising, given the people on the ground you have in Ibiza and that I'm in the UK. The original article did have some inaccuracies - the guy in question was attacked (not murdered) outside DC10, but all the evidence is that he died from his injuries as a result of this assault.

I enjoy your site, and have been a member for four years now, but find your take on this horrific incident slightly alarming. Instead of concentrating on the story, and wider issue (safety concerns of illegal cab trade) your first reaction is to severe all links between the death and DC10 at all costs

According to local newspaper reports Dc10 was closed at the time of the first incident...

No clubber was murdered outside Dc10.
for what reason I'm not sure. Perhaps to disassociate this incident from the clubbing scene?

I still can't find a news article written about this incident on Spotlight. Maybe it's there somewhere. A warning/discussion about the dangers of using illegal cabs would also be welcome. At the moment your reaction to this murder comes across to me as verging on flippant and dismissive - correcting spelling mistakes, lashings of smilies and somewhat trite reactions "600 words on my desk on Monday" rather than providing reportage and comment.

And "seems like" is hardly libellous, or even
libellious
.

This is what I love about Spotlight - a thread can transform so easily from a factually incorrect piece on an assault (allegedly) carried out by one of the islands illegal taxi drivers, to useful tips on spelling and punctuation. God bless the internet

Plus it beats chatting inanely to the folk on DSI

I posted something about it on open chat.

Touche. But calling someone a murderer when their name/initials have been in the paper is indeed defamatory. Any first year media law student could tell you that.

Quite clearly wrong. I could have deleted or edited any of your posts, but I left your factually incorrect title alone, and made a comment about it below.

In my opinion the distinction is quite important. If someone posted an innacurate report maligning your favourite Brighton venue you would also be justified in coming to its defence.

I really like going to Dc10. I have no financial interest in it beyond what I spend at the bar.

Re: Skrufff, I get the newsletter too. I complained to the guy who writes it. He got his story from the Sun. So you copied the guy who copied the tabloid newspaper. And you criticise Spotlight news values?

You can write a story about whatever you want for whoever you like. Just check the facts first.

Feel free to send any editorial submissions to me by PM. But please, do keep it brief.

Dear Dr. Mick, dear Stingray,

I read the first post and skimmed the leavings (hope, thats the correct word in english)....

My suggestion:

Plz close this thread.... there will be no new informations, only explanations why what when who ... whatever.... who is interested in that?

It is sad, that someone died on this beautiful island, but .... no need to become personal or offending....

And sorry for perhaps being presumptuous ;)

It's ok katrin, it might look a little rough but me and stingray are accustomed to debating.

But I'll lock it if you want to throw in the towel, sugar ray.

ok here's what sux about dc10... THERE ARE NO F***IN TAXIS ANYWHERE!!!!! EVER!!!!! the only thing u can take back is an illegal taxi  , i think that's crap and the owners should be calling in taxis all day long. then this **** would not happen

I think you have a very good point here. Me and my friends always have a car so I never really pay attention to taxi's, or pirate taxis for that matter. But now that you mention it, I've never seen a taxi around DC10 in the few years that I'm going there. Why is that? There's enough people to take back and forth all day long. Very weird, I mean, there are always ambulances standing by but no taxis!!! Don't they want to drive circoloco people around because everybody's 8O 8O 8O ???
But to the point, it would be a lot safer if there were regular taxi's around and like you said, this horrible accident would never have happened.

One thing that I always though when I heard this story, is that maybe the English guy started the trouble, and merely came off worse?

I'm not saying it's likely, though bearing in mind how some of the British act out there, and why would any one doing illegal taxiing, i.e. purely out to make money, waste his time starting a fight with a tourist?

It just doesn't make sense to me.

...you're right man...

last week, when we visited circo loco, we were waiting for about 30minutes outside dc10 to get a legal taxi (because before we went to ibiza we read about the illegal taxis and the problemes here in this forum and so we decided not to take an illegal one) back to playa d'en bossa......

but we didn't get on....so we walked (!!!) home :x :x :x and it wasn't funny to walk on a street where cars drove by 80mph or so.... :x :x :x

it would be a really good idea if legal taxis could wait in front of dc10 to get you home !!!

there's a story in today's ddi about an illegal taxi driver who assaulted his passenger in an attempt to rob him. could this be a reason?
