Cheap flights & hotels

The other day i priced up a quick 4 nighter to Ibiza mid Oct with jet2, it was twice the price of the same (actually 5 nights in 2022) holiday this year -£900 average type hotel.
they must have massive overheads or something is massively wrong.
not even a busy time i’m looking at and Easyjet have flight only for £87
it’s madness
I think their model is built on 7 day “all in”travel

Yeh usually Jet2 and TUI are better for standard 7 or 14 night trips to big resorts as they block book rooms, but for other trip lengths or less popular places it can be cheaper to book things separately.

I was having a quick nosy, and even 7/10/14 nights in pdb end of sept is either impossible to find, or around ~£500 per day.

Which is crazy.

Perhaps we are moving to a double peak and dip season going forwards. (Start/end season, August dip 🤷‍♂️)

Return flight tickets from London to Ibiza are just £92 with Vueling airlines - for January and February.

Great news, and about time. Never understood why they didn’t continue on with this route after Covid. Literally 5 miles down the road from me. Annoyingly I’ve booked flights already but always room for another trip 🤞🏻

Really thinking of giving Ibiza (and anywhere on the continent) a miss this summer/autumn; partly due to the prices, partly due to the EES clogging up airports. Some of the reports from Spain and Portugal are horrendous and we're totally off-peak, Might look at early October, it was lovely last year and the sea still warm so that's a possibility.

Really am getting fed up of air travel these days - have booked the Channel Islands (easyJet) twice next year so I'll have to suffer the living hell that is Manchester T2, but at least no passport or EES to bother with!

My plan of London City > Ibiza in March has been abandoned (going to Jersey instead) so I won't be getting my EES done any time in the near future.

So that's one year of my shiny new passport unused!

Trying to find decently priced flights in June/July not great so far even with new year deals. They are around but restricted by late flight times/mid week

Late June, best deal around Ibiza city is (solo) £495 for 4 nights in the Cenit. Anything cheaper = shared bathroom in a hostal. Vibra Maritimo, about as basic as it gets, is asking over £800 for the same.

Of course on the more expensive Formentera, the Roca Bella (again, basic but balcony always gives a decent view) over a grand.

They can effoff. Absolutely no chance of me going on my regular June holiday there, and that doesn't include probable EES delays.

Ryanair have some decent flights from Manchester at the end of Sept for those heading over then.
Already booked - but with Easyjet!

Just been trying to book a week in the south of the UK for mid-July. The hotel prices are just mind-boggling; yet peeps will pay up. Think I'll pop into Argos and buy a tent!!

Thankfully there is plenty of off-season (as you allude to, September and October are great - storms permitting!) and hopefully school holidays won't become more spread so we get those cheaper windows. It's on the cards with parents complaining that they are stuck with the most expensive weeks; but if you spread the holidays out more, then those extra weeks will become expensive...!!!

Are families still going to Ibiza in big numbers through? Cala Llonga and Santa Eulalia have more hotels going more luxurious. San An Bay is very patchwork with what's still old school value and some more Instagrammable hotels.

That said prices for every where ive looked seem high this year, city breaks, the Canaries, Greece feels like everywhere is pushing their luck with the prices but if people keep paying then they'll keep nudging them up.

Yes I think so - all the flights I’ve been on since covid have been mainly families, and large family groups too so you get around 10-15 of them per group.

Yep we found this too. Flights to Ibiza were cheaper than those to most of the Greek islands, so that should offset some of the cost when we're there. Hotel prices are going nuts nearly everywhere - not sure if down to the White Lotus or not, but the place we stayed in Thailand is three times the price we paid only two years ago 😯.

Wonder when "extreme day trips" will become a normal thing? Flight out - day on the beach or evening clubbing - fly back "home" within 18/24 hours and no hotel involved? And do that several times over the summer?

Being close to your home airport is key for that, I live near Hull and we are 1.5 hours away from an airport, so that's 3 hours added to the day just for driving.

I reckon I could stay out all night on a warm Ibiza night and make it a 2-dayer though.

I suppose if you live close to an airport in the south, Luton, Gatwick etc, it's quite possible if someone likes a particular Saturday Ibiza club, just fly out sat PM (2hr flight, 1.5 hrs airport, 0.5hr travel), club it and get an early Sunday flight home. DC10 can be reached from the terminal by walking if you're in sensible shoes!!
