Bill Gates - the modern day Robin Hood?

He'd get a lot more fiscal benefits by keeping the £400m himself, that's for damn sure.

Silvia you seem really aggessive today, you okay or did Bill gates steal your first boyfriend or something? ;)

I'm only joking before you start on me :D

I'm not agressive at all, it's sunny and bright outside but I'm an sceptic, you know

And to be honest, if the richest man in the world doesn't give bigs amounts of money then this world would have a serious problem

When Bill gates is dead he will have given...

MORE TO CHARITY AND GOOD CAUSES THAN EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD EVER PUT TOGETHER EVER

And still some people have a go at him

and i should think so too........ 8O only one man has ever given more.....and he didnt brag about it.....he came to feed the sheep....not fleece them! ;)

I don't understand why you say he's bragging?

If Bill Gates has a high opinion of himself, you'd thinkl he'd invest in a new wardrobe.

Quick google search to see what he looked like and...

no i dont.....ive made many mistakes in my life....though over the last 6 years ive tried very hard to change....but my personal opinion is that i do believe i will be held accountable for all ive done on this earth.....good or bad....i only hope the good outweights the bad..... :) 8)

discussed of the 1st page if you bother to read:

Scoobie said:
1) Because charities apply to his foundation for funding- a little diffcult to do if you don't know who to apply to.
2) Because in the interests of openess and transparency charities are required to publish where their money comes from/what they do with it.
3) Because his charitable organisation is hugely influential on the actions of other people in the charitable and private sectors due to his wealth and influence and by putting his name behind projects it encourages others, both individually and as companies to do the same
4) Because if he didn't you lot would all be moaning about what a stingy git he is.

Bill Gates is so insanely rich that he donates $400,000,000 and is considered cheap.

It's ridiculous that you havent listened to the structured argument which scoobie has put forward? When was the last time you saw a huge Bill Gates holding a starving child or a press conferance with him handing over a huge cheque with flashbulbs glowing?! Because if Gates was being as self indulgent as you are making out surely this would be the best option??
Apart from all the other constructuve reasons put forward "celebs" cant visit the local supermarket without getting picked up by the press let alone a charitable contribution of hundreds of millions of dollars? Perhaps it was just as low key as possible?
If i felt passionately enough about a cause that i was to donate money to charity i would most probably tell people about the cause and the donation so as to perhaps inspire them to do likewise?
Why is discreetness a necessity? Surely upping profile for a cause can only be benefitial?

I'm sorry Funkyhousekitten, but I don't think it's fair to call ridiculous other people just cos they think different than you. I agree with him and I maintain the idea that charity actions better do discretly. It's my PERSONAL OPINION, as yours is do it public.
Gates is the richest man in the world, if he doesn't give a big amount of money for charity reasons then this world would have a big problem. For me it's not that speciall he is doing the good samaritan, what it's really special is what BBS told about the Tsunami, peopel who had lost everything sharing with tourist a bit of rice.

And, I haven't seen myself that documentary but I'm sure Gates knew they were working on it. So, one thing is legal publicy and the other is a documetnary in the media
