Hed Kandi: I just heard it's basically vocal/happy house. So I think it'll be a mellower and not so hard crowd.

You couldn't be more wrong there. In Ibiza, the kandi dj's tend to go harder than usual because of the crowd.

Sure we have our roots in happy vocal house and we do play it, but we gauge what the crowd wants and from about two o'clock onwards it was full-on in there last year, and probably more reminiscent of twisted disco, the base bar albums and CD 2 of the disco kandi's, rather than happy clappy disco heaven.

Just do a search of hed kandi last year on the forums if you don't believe me...

i think thats why after coming back from ibiza last year and hk at el divino i now dont like the uk hk nights.....

It's pretty hard to deliver the same brand and keep two totally different crowds happy. In ibiza the crowd needs it to go harder - people are there on holiday and have that "there-for-a-week" mentality which the island has a knack of giving you (even if you go for four months!) that's why the music leans more towards twisted disco. The crowd dictates it, they're like a load of hungry animals by 5am! 8O

Back home we're appealing to our entire audience which stretches across the board so the music is perhaps more disco heaven and lacks that level of frenzy because that's typically what people want to experience in a UK HK night...funky vocals, and shiny disco balls. We throw in harder tracks at the end, of course, to spice it all up a bit and give it a bit of an edge. The nights in the UK have to show newcomers what we're all about as well as catering for regulars.

The hardest thing with Kandi is keeping everyone happy and giving everyone what they want. It's an impossible task, but on the plus side it's a reflection on our label providing such a diverse range of music which has to be a good thing. ;)

I can't wait for El Divino!!!!!!!! :D

We still get the night going with a hefty dollop of disco glitter and hands-in-the-air, but by the end of it you feel like you've been "had" sideways!

Sums it up nicely Hatty ! :D

I know what you mean about Kandi being all over the place in the UK at the moment. But if you were to take the "I'm in Ibiza, I want something differant" option, then surely you'll give Subliminal, Cream, M.O.S., Release Yourself, even Space to a lesser extent a miss in Ibiza as they're all hosted by DJ's you can see in the UK too.

The perfect situation is to mix it up a bit. I know what I like, so it stands to reason I'll like it even more in Ibiza.
And I arrive on Saturday 3rd July, and I'm doing Kandi. Even though I've seen them quite a few times recently, I always had a good time.

I take it you'll be giving it a miss on the 21st @ the Shack ey Gaz??
