Automobile Advice Please

which French makes? and what was wrong with them?

ta.

As a person with great expereince in the motor trade  I'd give peugeots a wide berth. John's is a different kettle of fish cus of the toyota connection.

If 'the' most important factor is reliability it has to be Japanese all the way. A decent alternative would be a Yaris 1.4 D4D. might be a tad boring, but you'll never break down. Similiarly the Minis are very reliable, or most Germans for that matter :p

oh ok - always been a bit snobby about Japanese cars, that's interesting to know about the Toyota. Thanks for the tip.

from 99-05, I owned an H reg Ford Escort and then an M reg Ford Fiesta 1.1 which were both very expensive to maintain and which had terrible electrics

so really quite open-minded about next model

Echo what Liam said

I've had a Toyota and a Honda and they both never missed a beat. You don't get the build quality and interior feel of a German car, but you don't get the maintenance costs either.

My Audi spent as much time with the dealership as with me in the first year. All settled down again now but I'm seriously looking East for my next car...

But then I saw one of these yesterday and thought hmmmmmm....:rolleyes:

Not usually a fan of BMW, nor their "image" but can'thelp but like these...

I do 30k+ Miles per year so like a comfy ride ;)

Plus 2 mini-jams & all their crap and I can almost justify the current car

How can you be snobby after owning them 2

If the main criteria is reliability, and not so much street cred, go Japanese every time ;)

There's no Infiniti dealership network in the UK, I bought the current car when we were towing boats & jetskis and travelling to the Alps twice each Winter. That's no longer the case so 4x4 is not as important...

Incidentally, Liam, which do you find the best car forum or other online consumer resource for independent, honest advice?

best price he's had so far is £700 to fit a new one.

dont suppose you know anyone in the herts/london area who can do a better deal?

If that is from a reputable fitter/engineer I'd go with the 7000 qui option, not a bad price (as long as it has decent warranty).

Cant recommend anyone else mate, been here too long ;)

www.whatcar.com is usually bang on the money. The trouble is finding one that is not dictated by sponsors. Click on the supermini reviews.

Incidently, what car only give the yaris 3 stars, this is probably due to it not being exciting enough, though they do say you cant go wrong for running costs and reliability, same goes for the Suziki swift and Nissan note ;)

currently leaning towards the VW Polo Moda

of all the reviews I've read, the most negative said it was loud and dull and doesn't come in 3 door range

can live with that - or is there anything else I should know?
