Maybe we will develop wings and take to the skies, and maybe that's where the mythology of Angels developed from.
Or gills... like in WaterWorld

Maybe some will develop wings and others gills and centuries down the line they will meet in a massive battle for world domination and the right to show the FA cup final??

"Pat Robertson (scary American evangelist) says the end is near!"

I will be watching the night sky to make sure that when the moon turns to blood I run to Pat's church, confess my sins, and get my ticket into heaven. Since that is the ONLY way there. 8O 8O

It sickens me when people like Pat Robertson stalk current events to check to see which ones he can use to legitimate his views and proselytize. As a student of religion (specifically New Testament) this dynamic is neither unfamiliar or unexpected. Usually, natural disasters get turned into a textual reason or example to show God's wrath, his anger at the world (example: the flood stories found in the Old Testament, the Epic of Gilgamesh and many more). I am sure Pat wastes no time making these disasters about the necessary salvation of these "pagan" countries and people. The apocalypse as scare tactic. UGH.

Sorry, I just got out of class...my mind is in this general direction at the moment :D

That's ok! It's just that kind of educated response that makes the conversation interesting ;)

As someone who was raised going to church every Sunday (until one day, at age 16, hungover from a Saturday night out, I just refused to go!), who has read the Bible many times, and who even went to religious elementary schools for 3 years, I can totally see your point.

Better go out and get "saved" because time is short... and while you're at it, give some money to the church

on the subject of disaster and armageddon - we forgot to add the iminent danger of Bird Flu into the equation too...... 8O 8O 8O

I've been following this for about 12 months and it ain't going away.

The Health boffins reckon it's practically a definite.

I read in the Times last night that Leicester University submitted detailed proposals 9 months ago to the Department Of Health regarding funding needed to improve the effectiveness of the flu immunisations - but still have had no reply!!!

It is predicted- and this ain't the redtops - that if it becomes a pandemic - 90,000 (best case) - 1 million plus (if it really goes off) mortalities in the space of several months.

It at present remains an inevitable event due to the natural cycle of the virus mutating.

WE'RE ALL GOING TO FCKING DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, this country has no shame, tomorrow is the national day and we are celebrating the day that Colón discovered America and brought so much death and devastation to the other side of the world

What's nonetheless :?

Morbyd, this national day comes from many many many years ago, it's called "la Hispanidad" and most people have no clue of what's going on...

If this makes you feel better: there's lots of people who thinks it's a shame to celebrate the national day on the 12th october (including me, of course) :(

That's ok, Silvia. They celebrate Columbus Day in the United States this week as well... though every year there's a debate about it in academic circles.

"nonetheless", added the end of a sentence, means something between "as well" and "to be more specific"

Worlds and civilations are built on colonialism. Why not celebrate Columbus day. Yeah okay, the Spanish did bring death and devastation to "the other side of the world", but it has happened since the beginning of time. Furthermore, I'm sure the native americans. (Who probably came from Asia over the Bering Straits) brought death and devastation to the people who were there before them. And so on and so forth. In the animal kingdom (which we are a part of however "intelligent" or "civilised" we assume upon ourselves) this is instrinsic with the spread of life.

Anyway, I come from Scotland and the only thing we ever colonised was the park benches of London. I don't subscribe to revisionist critiques of colonialism because there's not much we can do about it now.
