Armageddon? Apocalypse?

Worlds and civilations are built on colonialism. Why not celebrate Columbus day. Yeah okay, the Spanish did bring death and devastation to "the other side of the world", but it has happened since the beginning of time. Furthermore, I'm sure the native americans. (Who probably came from Asia over the Bering Straits) brought death and devastation to the people who were there before them. And so on and so forth. In the animal kingdom (which we are a part of however "intelligent" or "civilised" we assume upon ourselves) this is instrinsic with the spread of life.

Anyway, I come from Scotland and the only thing we ever colonised was the park benches of London. I don't subscribe to revisionist critiques of colonialism because there's not much we can do about it now.

jeembo, the problem is when the national day of a contry celebrates the begining of a period of death and devastation somewhere else.

I do take your point on board and I suppose in that sense it is a pretty horrid thing. So what regime prescribed that day as a "Spanish" national day? Is post Franco?

Nationalism is just a load bullox anyway. Socially created entity to make people of the same geographical area think they have something in common.

I don't know. It's actually "El PIlar" who is the female spanish equivalent to Saint George to England

i got a really horrible message from a number i didn't know telling me about the allignment of the planets, how its changing and how that means the world is coming to an end told me to prepare myself and pass the message on to everyone! quite upset me and started worryin. my boyfriend tellin me, ' well babe if the world is gonna end were gonna hav to get married sooner.' didin't really help my concern for the planets welfare! but not worth worryin really if you can help it which sometimes i can't. i kept the text but never passed it on and would never think of it. instead i messaged it back yesterday to say 'thanks for the cheery text arsehole. if the world does end anytime soon your goin to hell.' hope that give em somat else to think about! arse!

Sorry, I don't want to be offensive, but do any of you take seriously a page in tripod called armageddononline?

It doesn't seem to have any scientific reference supporting that

In that case just google "canary islands landslide" and pick any one of the other many sites.

Sorry big guy, but even the vaguest of searches reveals that any site with real scientific credibilty comments that the newspaper stories were hugely exaggerated and based on models that didn't replicate the historical gradual pattern of small breakdown of the coast.

I'm not moving north just yet. ;)

The world ends for us when we die anyway, so if the whole world ends it will be the same experience for the individual. I couldn't give a shit if the world ends or not, we enjoy a very niche area in the universe where conditions have meant we can prosper as a species. Best just to make the most of this life!!! This is the time for living!

Well that's what I think anyway.

Your missing my point and trying to push an environmental viewpoint. I was meaning on an individual and spiritual level it is best not to think about the world ending if you have no control over it.

Do you really think us humans are so significant that we will kill off the planet we live on? Mother nature will ensure we are wiped out long before that ever happens. Maybe we'll destroy our planet in a way that makes us unable to survive, but then that will create conditions where other life can survive.

The comedian George Carlin used to do a great routine about that. He mocked the environmentalists running around screaming "save the planet". What they should be saying is "save the humans!" because when we've made the place so unliveable that we die off, the the Earth will renew itself and new species will aris and everything will be just fine without us :?

I don't know... I used to watch his specials on HBO sometimes.

He had a very famous routine about the 7 words you can't say on television.

Don't really get HBO over here. I'll look him up though. Sounds pretty good!
