Are there alot of Americans in Ibiza?

Unless you're high up the food chain or you've got a really good labor union, most people only get about 2 weeks :!:
(**remembers one of the reasons why I'm living in Europe**)

I thought it was poor in comparison to Europe, didn't realise it was so bad! Many years ago a friend was determined to move the the States in his capacity as a systems analyst. He was shocked at the holiday entitlement, moved over and was back within six months, simply couldn't afford to live there!

ya man US vacations are so wack :( u have to wait forever to save up some time to go anywhere...most i could get is 2 weeks so i had to pack 4 different places....i so wish i could take atleast 3-4 weeks per year, but even then most jobs dont like it when ur gone more than a week so even gone 2 weeks is a big deal to some
Russia, and I believe much of Western Europe, go by the International Labor Convention guidelines which is a minimum of 4 weeks off per year, and one of those vacations should (in theory) last at least 2 weeks. 8)

that sux man but i know exactly how u feel, i've been planning this euro trip for over a year, i've been telling all my friends, sending emails, info, even cost break down and hardly any of them were down, finally only one friend commited couple of months ago and we made plans. Like u said most americans dont even think about stepping outside US, unless if its close like mexico or canada
To be fair, the US, Mexico and Canada is a big piece of land with quite a lot to see! Being an Eastcoaster, California is more alien to me than England.

I wouldn't worry about going solo, ravracer. You'll always find people to interact with. Plus you'll be on your own schedule and no wet blankets along for the ride. You'll have a blast ;)

lol ya i have yet to see these places too but they're nothing special really, nature wise yea its great but city wise theres really only LA, san francisco, miami and new york, the rest of US doesnt have much to offer. Even myself i havent seen east coast but ive been to europe. lol

what made u wanna move to russia? do u like it there?

I think we've highjacked this thread

It's been a long random road but I've been here for 9 years so I guess I like it! Moscow is a very dynamic city. More so than NYC in some ways.

I disagree about the US though. Chicago, DC, Boston, Philly, Seattle, Houston, New Orleans. Each has something to offer and surprisingly significant cultural differences for being in the same country. And LA doesn't count

those towns are meh...ya sure good to see them once but nothing special...new orleans hardly has anything left, seattle and chicago have horrible weather, boston and philly maybe, houston is a hell hole too. lol

LA atleast has hollywood, amazing weather and ur few hours from everything; beach, skiing, hiking, jungles, camping, all types of activities u want, and vegas ;)

John - How can he hijack his own thread?!

Sami - Hollywood? Are you kidding? No offence, but easily the most underwhelming place I've ever been to. I don't know what I was expecting really, but having seen it on tv and in the movies etc. since I can remember, to eventually visit and see it for what it actually is, was pretty disappointing, but I'm still glad I've been and can say I didn't like it. I enjoyed walking round Venice beach, and we were staying down at Manhattan Beach, which was pretty cool. We pretty much drove around for a day checking **** out. Seemed to spend a lot of it in traffic jams! I'll probably be back another time, so I'm still open minded about LA. In fact, I'm hoping to go back to UMMERICA (anyone see Hot Tub Time Machine yet? <-- douchebag ski patrol dude reference - my new favourite way of saying America!) in a couple of years to drive east to west, starting in Philadelphia and going North before heading west through and ending up in California. Got a few folk interested so it might actually happen (couldn't afford it any other way!).

ya LA has its horrible stuff and yes its mostly a big hype, but hollywood is about underground scene that others dont see...theres a mansion party or some exclusive club happening somewhere, u just need the money or right connections. So ya for general public, there isnt much. Also, what makes LA great is the location like i said, the weather is good most year and you're close to pretty much ANY activity u like and theres always some type of event in town. Did i mention vegas?

No interest in Vegas whatsoever. But hey, whatever floats your boat! My trips to the States have always been family orientated so theres been no time for going out. Seems to most like a missed opportunity having been over 3 times now, but considering the weekend is when my Bro gets time off and thats generally when we can go out doing stuff as a family it wouldn't really be appropriate to go out and get gubbed all weekend. I fully intend on returning to Cali as a proper tourist at some point though. I always spy lots of interesting **** going on in SF whenever I'm over and I'd really like to get over and check that side of it out.

I love California generally, but often when I go I just spend time with family in Santa Barbara, which is just a nice chilled place. What is there in terms of house / techno on offer? I would love to check out some good parties next time I go. I like LA overall but downtown is grim..

As for the rest of the U.S.; I didn't think all that much of NY. Being from London I just didn't rate it for some reason. Wyoming was.. different. I would go back just for the hell of it but there's not much going on there.

With regard to Americans in Ibiza, I don't think I've ever met one. I've encountered quite a few Aussies and a couple of South Africans but that's it. Are Americans just not all that interested in the music/clubs/Island?

People are into music & clubs but the EDM scene is definitely a subculture. Of course, with 300 million people, a subculture still has a decent amount of adherents! (note the stats above that more Americans visit the island than neighboring Portuguese!)

I think its just that much more effort/money involved for americans probably as I'd assume you'd probably get a flight all the way to London or perhaps Germany/France then have to get another to Ibiza. Where as alot of aussies n south africans are already in the uk and use it as a base to discover europe
The american's I have met have been very clued up and knew their stuff

A couple of Russian transplants here living in Florida now, going to Ibiza on August 2-5. I think the reason Ibiza is not very popular with Americans is that house/trance music is not that mainstream here. Maybe soon it will be, with EDC in LA getting over 180000 people, but not yet, not yet...

Privet! (from American transplant living in Moscow... with family in Florida btw!)

Not totally true. Remember - house and techno got their starts in the US. But the clubs are overrun with hip hop these days. Also depends on which city you're in.

Are you in Miami or elsewhere?

oh yea there are lots of people who love that type of music and i know in LA and surrounding LA theres always major events in big stadiums or out in the dessert outside the city. And in clubs in town, there are after hour spots after 2am that spins that kinda music. But some of the big events in stadiums u tend to get too many kids, thats the only problem.

Americans generally dont travel much cuz of money and lack of time off from work...we get about 2 weeks/year which is not much, like i have to not go anywhere for a while to save up my time to be able to visit europe. And u figure with the distance it cost alot more to go to ibiza than it would for someone in europe, africa or asia

i can understand that but if u love ibiza and partying, then how can u not like vegas?? even if u dont party, vegas is unlike anywhere else in the world, def. worth a visit.

Привет! Not in Miami yet, trying to move down there, but for now I am up north from it.

Yeah, it's funny how techno was born here and now most of the mainstream clubs play rap/hip-hop for the most part. I was quite "culture-shocked" when I saw all the bumping and grinding to hip-hop in the clubs here.

How did an American end up in Moscow? Was that work-related, or simply by choice?

I can't wait to be in Ibiza, 1 more week to go!!!

First I'm from Houston so don't call it a hell hole.

I went to Ibiza in June, I met a nice girl from Cali that was visiting her foreign exchange student's family in San Sebastian and they came out to Ibiza for a spell. I also met a dude around my age from Philly at the airport and saw him at Amnesia. So yes, there are Americans on the Island. I met 2 Canadian girls too. Last year I met a group of spoiled punks from Austin.

There are multiple reasons for why there aren't many Americans on the Island. First, is distance. We have the Caribbean and Mexico at our disposal so why fly 12 hrs for a destination with less impressive beaches as compared to some of the Caribbean Islands. Not knocking Ibiza though, it's my favorite vacation destination :D. Or you can go to Hawaii and not even need a passport.

Second, is cost. I can do a week in Cancun all inclusive resort and airplane ticket for around 1500$. My trip was about 3x that. The Euro also kill's it for a lot of people.

Third, EDM's hayday in the states was from the mid 90's to the early 00's. Even then, it was more of a Rave type scene then the clubs with EDM. It is making a rebound though. There's still a hip crowd that follows it, and awesome event's like Coachella and UMF Miami.

Fourth and most important, not many American's know what or where Ibiza is. Everytime someone ask where I went I have to explain. They rarely have a clue.

I think the reason that the American's that do go are going for the club, party and EDM scene. That's why I go, because there is nothing like it and it fulfills my insatiable appetite for morally compromising activities.

My advice is to not worry about meeting Americans. With all the European wool running around, you're a novelty. Play that hand kid, play that hand.
