Doing that thing today when I take a half hour out of work to look online at villas for sale in Ibiza and then get very sad because they still seem as far out of reach as they did when I first started looking years ago

I thought the prices were supposed to be coming down?

I kind of like these two

I suppose part of the problem is that I wouldn't want anything "terraced" and I'm partial to the south. Probably some cheaper fincas for sale up north somewhere

All daydreaming, of course...

They have come down in price, and there seems to be much more sensibly priced places now, where as 5 years ago it was

This is our Ibicencan dream for when we move there

Anyway mate, when you are ready come and see me and i'll take you over as 'my' client, then you could save quite a bit of money ;)

its amazing how many properties seem not to have sold that have been on agents books for a few years now.
i was sent a link from agents now having an auction for properties and it was amazing the difference in prices between the auction rates and the rates on other agency websites (whilst i appreciate they would be 'starting from' rates)
would love to lend £500k but sadly wasn't one of the lucky euro million winners last week....oh £56m would have just been enough !

I suppose I should wait for the euro to crash

Maybe it's just what you see on the websites but it looks nearly impossible to find something decent with a couple of bedrooms and a bit of land for less than 500k. At least, not in the south... but then again, maybe I wouldn't notice if the prices came down because they're still out of range?

I keep kicking myself for forgetting to buy that Euromillions ticket when I was in London last week!

our plan is to sell up here, buy something for less than half the price in mallorca, and live happily ever after.

this would do me nicely

http://www.mallorca-dreamhomes.com/property/house/1351/

town centre with some nice bars and restaurants, short tram ride to beach, 20 minutes to palma, shops, cafe bars and jazz clubs.

Is Mallorca considerably better value then, on a whole or just certain parts ?? Or are you just wanting to down size ?

Our plan is to be in Ibiza by 2012, probably rent for the first year to see if we settle ok, then look to purchase.

the housing market in mallorca is much more reasonably priced than ibiza and yes, we'll be downsizing as well. we currently have 320 square metres of house when around 120 would do us nicely, though our purchase of a big house was all part of the plan to increase our capital gain from it to help us in our old age.

plus i'm bored to tears in ibiza as i now crave some sophistication in my life

do any of you understand how the inheritance tax system works in Spain or does it depend on the comunidad? Because in Barcelona, you get seriously whacked when someone dies (the Generalitat creams off like 30% of the estate) whereas that doesn't seem to apply in say Valencia or Aragon. If you're looking at living somewhere long term, it's worth taking that into account. I was also told it's really hard to hide money away in tax-free Andorran bank accounts now - as the spanish banks/govt have really wised up + as the stock market is so volatile and you get penalised on what you take out the country, you basically have to invest any cash you have in property..

It was reduced greatly the last couple of years (except for non married or same sex couples), but is still as high as 30% if it is over €400,000 (I think) and upto €800,000, then over 800k it rises to 35% (or thereabouts) *these are approximates

Interesting the venaular has even infected the estate agents - a 'chill out terrace' indeed...
