The Matutes Group is considering an ambitious development programme for Playa d'en Bossa, where it has several businesses and owns a great deal of land. Apart from a golf course and a marina, they are also looking into the possibility of constructing a shopping mall. A spokesman commented that the idea is to revitalize the area and that plans would meet with the requirements set out in the Bolkenstein Directive concerning the liberalization of commercial premises. He revealed that the Group had been approached by two chains, Carrefour and Alcampo, interested in opening outlets in the area, although he said the group would prefer to use the land themselves. If given the green light, it would ensure a considerable amount of employment, not only on the construction, but also the staff to man the shops once they are up and running.

Fiesta Hotel Group to invest next winter
more than 20 million euros
in expanding Ushuaïa
M. J. Real | Eivissa | 17/03/2012

The Fiesta Hotel Group hotel chain will invest over EUR 20 million to reform the coming winter the Hotel Playa d'en Bossa, thus extending the Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel. "Within the Plan for Excellence in the Platja d'en Bossa that want to launch there, among other things, reform of Playa d'en Bossa to become an extension of Ushuaïa. If all goes well we will begin the work next winter with the intention of opening the season of 2013, "said Abel Matutes Prats, general manager of Fiesta Hotel Group.

Five stars
The expansion area will not watch more concerts and parties but would be specialized in luxury, "No concert will more areas, the expansion will mean that there is an area of super five star suites, I think. The investment is quite important because we will be more than 20 million, may be around 25, but still have to close the budget. " After the reform and expansion in Ibiza, the chain raises Ushuaïa exporting the brand internationally. This are studying possible destinations: "For there to be a type of hotel and have to give a series of elements that make the Ushuaïa possible. On the Costa del Sol, for example, would not be possible because it has no musical quality or image of Ibiza. After enlargement on the island we would land in Miami, but fondly look other places. "
As for category changes in some hotels in the chain, Abel Matutes Prats said they are studying the transition from four to five-star Palladium Palace this summer after some reforms will be renamed Grand Palladium, besides trying to increase get five stars for the hotel Don Carlos (also currently under renovation and this summer will be 'adults only') and Cala Llonga, which aims to achieve four stars.
For this tourist season, the chain has 14 hotels on the island, hire more than 2,000 people, a figure that could be increased given the good prospects for this tourist season: "This year we will hire more people safe; we're doing templates and I am convinced it will. This season will be better than last year, we raised the rates depending on the hotel, which will ensure we attract a more affluent tourist. "
Matutes Prats believes that the island is undergoing a regeneration process passing tourist attract tourists "with more purchasing power. Ushuaïa In this process has been one of the engines, which along with other new concepts has created a breeding ground for the site Eivissa become more fashionable in the world. We must try to strengthen it in this sense. " About the possible resurgence of similar concepts to Ushuaïa on the island, the director of the hotel chain asgura "If facts come out with such gusto concepts that comply with the law and with such investment will be good for everyone. What is dangerous is that there are people who want to imitate a tenth being spent because that's where we would load that is being generated now in Ibiza. "

REGENERATION PROCESS
"The Ibiza Eivissa we thought had it all by name"
The director of the hotel chain says the island is undergoing a process of change. "One of the failures we faced the Ibiza is Ibiza relax and think you had it all by name. And that happened, there was a time when we begin to be what it seems that we are now and we started having policies of 'no'. That's when we are falling because there are many sites that tried to attack the affluent client. "

NEW LAW GENERAL TOURIST
"The new tourism law is far more realistic and just as the previous"
Matutes Prats said that the new Tourism Law is "far better than the old. More realistic and fair ", but states:" Still I wish there was some sort of periodic review because when you get the stars and not lose them. A hotel that got the stars for 30 years now certainly is not giving a five star service and unfortunately a hotel with services expected to get five stars not because the law is more reestrictiva back. "

MORE MONTHS SEASON
"The seasonal passes to promote golf tourism and nautical"
The employer states that should be encouraged especially in the complementary offer two points to extend the season: "The client may be primarily winter in northern or eastern Europe, mainly to move nautical tourism, an activity that can be extended until November and golf tourism, which is high season in winter when you can play in the countries of origin. " And points out: "The seasonal adjustment is already invented, what is lacking is the will to implement it."

Oh, Lord. Now it's the whole hotel that will have the premium rate. Glad it's not happening until 2013.

I have a vision of a road block and beach block either side of Ushuaia decked in neon, where you can only pass through with a VIP pass or a wristband for 50 Euros ... otherwise as a mere mortal you can swim around, drive back in to Space the other way .. else get the f*ck out of town, you lowlife pleb

i mentioned this years ago.but did say it was space they was knocking down to make way.mine you it was from a good source,78 year old timer.when pdb only had one hotel and a beach bar.so she was not far off.knows a lot of high class locals.thats why i guess.

lately diario de ibiza is not putting online some of the most interesting articles so people buy it on paper. in today's edition matutes announces that the definite plans for playa den bossa (featuring a slightly smaller golf course) will be revealed very soon. and in yesterday's edition there was an interview with him that included some juicy quotes ("ushuaïa is the most legal establishment in ibiza" was the main headline).....

Road Improvements
The Town Hall announced recently that a new roundabout will be constructed at the intersection between Calles Murta and Begònias, the principal access to the tourist zone in Playa den Bossa. The Deputy Mayor, Vicent Torres, explained that the work has been pending for some time, but was not undertaken during the summer season to avoid traffic disruptions, but now there is some urgency to ensure that the work is completed well before the beginning of the 2013 season. Not only will a roundabout be constructed, but also a pavement which will lead to the beach. Three pine trees will need to be felled as their roots are in danger of affecting the pavement and the drainage system and four pedestrian crossings will be included.
