There was one video of him on YouTube a few years ago where was in the crowd with his launch pad and some keyboard warrior posted something like "all the gear and no idea" with an eye-roll emoji
Most other people would have ignored it or replied with an angry comeback.
But James was very polite and diplomatic asked the poster what kit he used himself, but also wrote in such detail it was clear he absolutely knew what he was talking about
Won the guy around by his next reply and then it goes back and forth again for a while
Not just technically brilliant but a really nice guy

I recall he did a lot of stuff with Fancilli around the mid 2000s and played We love space loads , Only 15e at Akasha ,must admit I thought it would sell out very quickly but doesn’t seem to have done yet .

I had a little chat in space many years ago, a great guy.... and I still listen to many of his we love sets today. What a shame that we missed him by a few days

My only experience of Zabiela was at Godskitchen (don't ask..) in 2006 and I found the set pretty boring tbh. Technically tight but nearly all progressive breaks and not a lot of house. A lot of hanging around waiting for something to happen. That said, his rework of the church's under the milky way did sound pretty cool towards the end though (sadly just a white label that never got cleared)

I've seen him several times down the years. One of the most technically gifted DJ's of all time, his work with Pioneer is an example.
My personal favourite was a Friday night at the old Sankeys Soap in Manchester. B2B2B between him, Fanciulli and Greg Vickers. Proper original tech house (not the new shite), walls dripping with sweat and one strobe. Everyone mangled. Twas perfect.
He did go quite proggy at one stage from hanging around with Sasha a lot.

Talking of which, Sasha and Henry Saiz where amazing yesterday with their b2b in the garden. No flying djs, no 3D images just a great crowd and good tunes which is essentially it's all we need!
In the current climate, thank f*ck for places like Las Dalias and Akasha!

Shame you missed it Stivi but I'm sure you'll have other chances. Renaissance next week also looks pretty good, I might go for another garden session at least...then there is Hernán next month!
