Airport Thieves

Thing is the original post was in regard to Edinburgh airport which is a UK airport therefore operating under UK Department of Transport Regulations.
I believe the traveller's journey originated in Ireland. It appears that certain things were allowed in his carry-on when travelling to Edinburgh that were not allowed on the way back. He might have surmised, and not completely illogically, that things he was allowed to bring onboard the cabin when travelling to Scotland would also be allowed on the way back.

Also, see my note above about inconsistent implementation of this rule... and I was talking about Heathrow, arguably the center point of UK air travel.. Jonny was travelling from a smaller regional airport.

I think there's so many inconsistencies between airlines and airports even in the UK at the mo so it is confusing. I just took no hand luggage cos I figured it was the safest thing for me to do  I did get thru security tho and found a lipgloss and lighter in Tom's bag (both which were meant to be banned items) and they didn't pick them up.

Oh ya... they've got signs everywhere about lighters but I kept taking mine through anyway because I wanted to smoke  No one said a word!

lol

Yes thanks for that, I am well aware of current airport restrictions. Its not your point I am disagreeing with, it is the tone of your messages, there is no need to be condescending or sarcastic and tell people to wake up or that they are putting their brains in their suitcase and use CAPITAL LETTERS - which the girl who sits next to me at work tells me means you are shouting. The guy is looking for help, not a ripping into.....

If you notice it was Morbyd who called your tone hostile. I am merely agreeing with him.......

Ah.....Bless

I work in an airport and have a camera for sale. Some nice photos thanks.

Listen MissJ, by saying that we were "well travelled" all I was trying to say is that all of us have used air travel many times, and travelled into Stanstead airport a huge amount and have never had any probs (even during heightened terrorist security etc) but on our first experience with Ibiza airport, three out of four of us had our suitcases broken into / stuff nicked. I was merely highlighting the coincidence.

Who took the jam out of your doughnut anyway??

Valuables

And my point was....and still is, why not carry small valuable items in hand luggage? With a 3kg-5kg hand luggage allowance there really is very little reason to put expensive Sunglasses...MP3 players...Cameras etc. in hold luggage.

There is also the very distinct possibility that the thefts happened in the arrival airport in the UK.

Understood, but you didn't have to talk to me like I had burned your house down or something.....with all that "Brains in suitcase" bollocks. I didn't come on here for a ruck I was just responding to someone elses thread by offering an experience of what happened to my group.

I personally wouldn't EVER check anything valuable into the hold. I always carry everything in my hand luggage. Granted, there have been times in UK airports recently where you cant take any hand luggage on board at all. But I still think most airport staff are theiving scum so honestly dont take any chances with any of your valuables!

MOST?......

Not the most widely travelled person who uses this forum by any means, but can probably claim upwards of 40 overseas flights (hubby on the other hand has made probably double that number)

And NOT ONCE have I had hold luggage broken into, nor has my husband, nor either of my sons, nor any of my friends to my knowledge...

So MOST airport staff are thieving scum?.....Such wild sweeping statements are frankly ridiculous

It was a joke!! Chill out! Jeez I didn't realise we had the Airport staff Union rep on the board

I'm just saying I trust no one... I know loads of people who've had things nicked from their checked in luggage.

All i had with me was hand luggage and i was able to bring it onto the plane with me going over to Glasgow Prestwick but flying back from Edinburgh i had to go back and check it in and that's where i believe it was taken, there is no other explanation for it.

You'll excuse me for not seeing the funny side of this,if you just had a €500 camera stolen from you i don't think you would find remarks like this funny either

Ahhhh Miss J once again I notice you seem to getting on people nerves a little in not only this, but the other forum about Police presence........ notice a pattern developing here...... your hostile and aggressive and everyone else is not...... to be honest I think your tone is so arrogant that no one reallys cares what you say anymore... I am very pleased I have never met you in Ibiza as you don't sound like a very nice person.

A girls just gotta have fun...? Don't make me laugh......

Ray, you seem intent on keeping this going. this was a couple of weeks ago and yet you dig it up again. So why not do me a favour and change the record....You talk about patterns developing, the pattern you are involved in developing is combing the forums for my posts and jumping on my back.

I am entitled to my views on posts as are you, just because I don't agree with your views....That makes for discussion and debate, which forums are for in the first place.

So do me a favour, get off of my case and concentrate on posting your own threads and stop searching for posts that I make just to go on and on to me....You are acting like an old woman now

I think that Ibiza airport must be particularly bad for this kind of thing,

I got back on Saturday and out of 4 of us, three of our suitcases had been opened whilst behind the scenes at the airport , 2 were deamaged beyond repair and the third had had 2 pairs of expensive sunglasses and some other stuff stolen.:spank:

All of us guys are relatively well travelled and none of us had ever had trouble like this before so Ibiza must just be a bit of a hotspot.

My dad come home from ibiza last Saturday too and he had a memory card from his digital camera stolen and some aftershave stolen.
