9/11

I watched the first tower collapse from the roof of the school I was working at in queens. The second one fell as I was holding a crisis counseling session for our students- I had bloods, crips, latin kings, familia, and nietas crying and hugging each other. It was impossible to reach anyone by phone, and I didn't hear about my friends/family who lived nearby, or worked in the buildings until much later at night. Can't believe it's been six years.

or they both had a hint of the Demon Headmaster about them (google it up John ;))
Before I Google, is that a Skull & Bones reference? :p

I'm with those that say Blair (like Clinton) was a good leader overall. Your economy is booming and your nation has become the center of the Western world once again. Unfortunately, he will probably be remembered for his mistake of following Georgie boy into Iraq. At least Bill will be remembered for the slightly less odious crime of getting a blowjob in the Oval Office anteroom. (George will be remembered for nothing other than being a buffoon and being the son of a recent president)

Yes, invading Iraq was stupid and made things worse. Yes, we have every reason to be deeply suspicious of the motives of Bush and all his fellow travellers.

But what we cannot do is lose sight of the fact that the other side in the war you speak of has an even more pernicious worldview.

They don't want Muslim nations subjugated to Western democracy like the neo-cons.

They want those nations unified by force into a global Caliphate governed by sharia. According to Arab commentators, I understand, al-Quaida's goal is for this to be established by 2020, ready for a final apocalyptic confrontation with the West.
Ok, maybe, but this is irrelevant to Iraq. They had a strong, secular government (despotic as it might have been). Al Qaeda existed in Iraq only in a small remote valley in the far northeast... which would have been anhilated if we hadn't restricted the Iraqi government from getting there thanks to our 'no fly zone'.

Props to you, sir 8)

We found out about the first tower when we got back to my friends house after school... I got back to my house, and turned on the Tv to see the second tower collapse. I've never watched the news for so long. It's one of them events that are just unbelievable. A 'where were you?' moment, if ever there was one.

I was in Kavos at the time. We had been a walk up the strip to The British Restaurant for our lunch then to a shop for beers. We were walking back down to our apartments along the strip and there was just this huge mass of people outside one of the pubs that had huge projection screen. We wondered what the hell was going on. Everyone was just in total silence, the first plane had just hit. We stood for a while and watched in total disbelief as the 2nd plane hit and then they collapsed. Was a very strange atmosphere around the place for a few hours. Then we went back to our apartments and got drunk as usual.

A few of us had bought shirts that had the Manhattan skyline on them before we went on holiday and we all wore them out that night.

some good posts on here and glad to see the usual suspects haven't again gone and ruined the thread, keep it respectful.

Chewie don't want to turn this thread into a politics forum. And I'm afraid any response to your oversimplified, politics by headline post would probably do so. See you on "The Sun" Forums instead.

Because certain people as of late have taken it upon them to ruin respectful threads, the Pavarotti thread being one example and i didn't want to see this one end up the same.

Show me one thread relating to people dying where i have ruined it?

why cant people have the decency to keep certain threads respectful, obviously threads relating to football or other issues will more often than not end up a farce, fair enough but you'd like to think people would have some decency as to not ruin certain threads this one being an example that is my point.

jonny, 4 or 5 people have picked up on what you said or the way you are being. this seems to happen every time there is a thread involving yourself.

doesn't that type of reaction make you consider your own actions/comments?:?
