I'm not so much into the symbolisim as I am into the wondrousness. The Pyramids, Chichen Itza, Angkor, the Acropolis - these massive constructions that must have required Herculean efforts to build given the level of technology, engineering and architecture of their times. Petra - an entire city built into the stone of the earth. The longevity of all these monuments to endeavour... that's why they have my vote.
Love what the Statue of Liberty stands for... and it's definitely something everyone should see, but I wouldn't call it a "wonder".
