Day 10 (phew)Today was our last full day. My other two mates were feeling a little rough.Although I was feeling great, I thought I'd catch up on some sleep before we head to Ushuaia for Antz. I was reluctant to do Antz, but one of my mates really wanted to do it.My preconception of Antz was a very busy Ushuaia all banging their heads to hard house music. I was not far off.
During the day, I pooped down to the hotel pool at about 4pm to catch up with the guys who were sunning them selves. We spoke about last night’s antics and assured one of them, that nothing happened. And it’s true, nothing happened. I’m not one snorting cocaine, in fact, call me a little wet behind the ears, but I have never seen anyone snort cocaine in real life until that previous night. I can now tick that off my list. Anyway.
Today was the day I switched on my roaming data, I done well to have no cellular activity for 9 days, but I needed to tie up some lose ends (if you know what I mean) and needed to have data in Ushuaia. So now there is a £3 charge that will be added to my bill. It's not so much the cost, it's the cheek of one of the richest phone companies in the world trying to squeezes every last penny out of you. F**k you Vodafone. I know what your all thinking. Why am I cursing about a £3 Euro Traveller charge, but I can go into Space a spend €18 on a mixer. And you know what, I’m thinking the exact same thing.
Anyway, met at reception at about 6.30 pm. We topped up on the all-inclusive bar just before we hit Ushuaia. Always keep a small bottle with you so you can take you alcohol to go. We made the very short trip down to Ushuaia. We arrived at about 7.30, only half of Ushuaia was open at the time, the stage area I think they opened at 8pm. I was very reluctant to buy drinks there, but the urge got the better of me, and I heard my other two friends Vodka & Diet Coke calling me. How could I let them down. 10 minutes later I'm standing with 2 vodka’s, could not be assed to queue again so I bought 2.
We stood on mezzanine at the back of Ushuaia. The music was not to bad actually, it was tolerable, not as hard as I though it would be. We met theses guys who were also from London. Made small talk, until the stage opened, then went down to see what Antz is really about. To me, it's much ado about nothing. However it's a very popular event. What made it bearable was that there were some very nice chicks in the place, however still overrun with dudes.
Earlier in the day I was in contact with the Spanish chick I met in Blue Marlin. I was trying to link her after Ushuaia. She said she had a few errands to run, however can meet me around 11.30 pm. I was like that’s perfect, that gives me a good 4 hours to chat up some others chicks (I said quietly to my self). God knows what errands she has to run when she’s on holiday, so I told my boys that I’m going to duck out early, they hi-five me and say go for it, she’s a hottie. If she was below a 7, I think they would have questioned my decision making.
So it’s about 11.25 pm, I head for the exit’s, it took me about 10 minutes to get out, as it was jam packed. I had asked her to meet me in front of the Ushuaia hotel entrance. And there she was, parked across the road in her black convertible VW Beatle. I cross the road as she is stepped out of the car. I was mesmerised with how gorgeous she looked. She was a strong 7 at Blue Marlin, however, this time she was looking close to a 9. And if you know me, I don’t just throw out 8’s and 9’s to anyone. She look beautiful. She greets me with a kiss and asks how Ushuaia is, I said it’s ok, did not want her to think I was having to much fun without her. Anyway, I wish I could tell you that we had a wonderful romantic evening, and gazed up at the stars whilst reading her poems I wrote earlier in the day, on my hand made Filofax. Far from it.
She had not run her errands yet, she needed to pick up her friend at the airport at 12.30. So of course I was looking real confused. She knew I was flying out tmr, and she also knew I was staying at the Algarb. So she says, Ill meet you back at hotel around 1.30. What could I do. I had to go with the flow. At this point everyone was streaming out of Ushuaia, we kissed and then she jumps in her car and off to the airport (so she say). So I head back to the hotel. She texts me just before 1 am, to tell me that her friends flight has been delayed. All I’m thinking about is I have to check out of the hotel at 7.30 am (among other things). Then it gets to about 1.30 am, she texts me again to say they are still delayed, and the ETA is 2.30 am, then there will be passport control and luggage if any. Before I had the chance to say maybe we should let it go, she beat me to it. She was travelling to Fomentera in the morning and suggested that maybe we meet in London as she travels a lot, and she is really really sorry. And that was that.
I have to take her on face value and give her the benefit of the doubt. I think the whole thing was genuine? We are still in touch today, only because she might visit London, and because I’m a sucker for a pretty face.
I slept like a baby and woke up to my alarm at 7 am. That was it, holiday over. It was a very straight forward journey home, no drama’s to speak about, except for an Austrian chick I chatted up at the airport, we just exchanged numbers and that was that.
So there you have it. An almost frank and detailed review of my trip to the best island in the world. The highlight for me was probably Diynamic Outdoor @ Beach House, only because it surprised me the most.
