Your opinions on tanning salons

Thank you for the informative responses!

My skin did begin to itch a little after 7 days of solid sunbathing - the sunscreen I was using by the gallon had great time release vitamins and moisturizers in it so it wasn't so bad. A little Nivea after sun lotion that I bought in PDB helped keep me even more moisturized and took the itching away. If I had been using a cheaper sunscreen I know it would have been worse. I took to renting an umbrella for a few euro the last few days; I just couldn't stay away, given that the sun here in NY is crap year round.

If you use sunscreen would you be able to tan in the tanning bed? The technology seems more dangerous than just sitting in the sun. :?

It doesn't work like that.

It's extremely dangerous and is a sure-fire way to age prematurely and increase your risk of cancer. I think it also looks really fake, but I'm not a fan of fake tan either.

If you must, fake it as there are decent enough makes that mean you don't need to damage your health for the sake of vanity.

I say just embrace who you are, paleface   ;)

Spoken from someone who is fabulously brown year round

The best tanning lotion on earth:

Costs around $35 a bottle, but SO worth it!!! Nice nutty brown color, NOT orange.

Thank you both for the advice! :D

After all this debate, I think I'll be paleface for the winter. It is much healthier, and it's probably the reason why my tan looked so nice for the brief amount of time it was around. I saw some very leathery people on the beach this year - great tans but I wouldn't want to touch them! Italian guys kept wanting to rub my glowing, tanned skin for good luck. :P

I also love the feeling of running outside to catch the first rays of good sun after a long, harsh winter. I'll definitely try the St. Tropez tan lotion, though, for when I want to be rubbed by an Italian again. :D

if you have no moles and no skin conditions, a little sun CAN help f.i on acne. Sometimes im a bit acnethrown, around the jaw area and then i use facial sun, just one time max 2 in the winther. it dries out the occasional spots u can get, from hormones, far food ect, for me its stress syndrome.
but moisturize like crazy afterwards.
i recommend using and all-over fake tan lotion like St. Tropez, but the gel from Clarins is also VERY natural and good to start with because its slowly builds the tan and is soooo easy to put on. The Kanebo is FANTASTIC and smells a little like honey.

lets not panic too much about the sunthing, if you´re healthy and dont have moles. OK 1 Time or 2 in the tanning bed wont harm but DONT let it become a habit, becuase the skin WILL get damaged.
pale is also really gorgeous,
try MAC´s sunshimmer compressed powder on sale for around 15 pounds. Its really natural because u can control the intensity of the color use a soft brush to apply!

good luck!!! :D

I don't like fake tan, makes me itch & I don't like the smell. Plus I really can't be arsed, too much like hard work!!
I've never used a sun bed but probably will have a couple of sessions before my wedding to give me a golden glow!

i think sunbeds, like everything else, are ok in moderation. i use them once or twice a month for around 12 mins each time. i just think i look healthier with some colour on me. i do worry about ageing, cancer.....but its just one of those things. these days everything has some element of risk involved, and you just gotta be sensible.

as for fake tan..... it always ends up looking just that "fake". on me anyway! i always ends up looking orange and streaky. plus it takes ages to apply. if it wasnt for that i would defo use it intead of a sunbed.

you need to exfoliate with a spunge before applying.
1. exfoliate with a bodywash containing small corns, f.i Biotherms thermal spa exfoliator, or the sugar scrub from Estee Lauder. Higly recommendable. Dont get any cheap brands, as their corns wont do the trick and they use apricot and other bad fruit enzymes that wont penetrate the skin properly.
2. Dry exfoliate with a special brush, towards the heart so from fingers and up towards your heart to stimulate blood circulation. this helps combat any cellulite some might have. its really good!
3. Pad on LOTS of moisturizer.
4. Quickly after apply the self-tanning agent. F.i Claring Gel. Its easy to put on and have only a light color so its good for the fair skinned/red haired types also. after a few days, apply more then the tan will darken.

you WILL get even results if you follow IG´s 4 steps of the self tanning guide! :D
